Central Research Laboratory Begins Operation at DEÜ

Central Research Laboratory Inaugurated at DEÜ The 'Central Research Laboratory', which Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi (DEÜ) has brought into service within its Science and Technology Application and Research Centre with an investment value of approximately TRY 30 million, opened at the DEÜ Tınaztepe Campus. DEÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Nükhet Hotar stated that the central laboratory was planned to meet the needs of both the university and the public/private sectors. The Central Research Laboratory, supported by the Presidency of Strategy and Budget of the Republic of Turkey within Investment Programmes, entered into service at a ceremony held at the DEÜ Tınaztepe Campus. The laboratory, completed with an investment of approximately TRY 30 million and operating within the DEÜ Science and Technology Application and Research Centre, was inaugurated in the presence of DEÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Nükhet Hotar and prominent members of the university. The centre, which will serve innovative research in science and engineering conducted at Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi, will also address the demands of industrialists, the private sector, entrepreneurs and public institutions and organisations. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, DEÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Nükhet Hotar recalled that Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi was recognized by the Council of Higher Education last year as one of 20 research universities in the country, and said they attach special importance to laboratory investments and services. Stating that the Central Research Laboratory will host projects that will strengthen DEÜ's research mission and high-technology outputs, Rector Hotar said, "Our laboratory project, launched as an 'Infrastructure Project' by our university and supported by the Presidency of Strategy and Budget of the Republic of Turkey within investment programmes, was planned to meet the needs of both our university and the public/private sectors. Operating within the Science and Technology Application and Research Centre, our laboratory will lead innovative research in science and engineering. Supporting postgraduate studies, our laboratory will also serve areas required by the industrial sector and strengthen university-industry cooperation."

An invitation to science and business

Saying that the centre, which will support R&D companies located in DEPARK, the country's first health-themed technopark, will also lead an increase in internationally-supported project numbers, Rector Hotar said, "We aim to use our laboratory in areas for which our university is responsible in its focus area matching, and in work aimed at the areas envisioned in the Government's 11th Development Plan. Through our laboratory, we will also further support research and our scientists. I invite scientists, entrepreneurs, industrialists and private sector representatives to benefit from the facilities of our Central Research Laboratory; I extend our thanks to the members and stakeholders who contributed to bringing this valuable investment to our university."

DEÜ Vice Rector Duygu Özel Demiralp noted that Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi has brought into service new projects and investments in many fields from healthcare to engineering, and said: "I would like to extend my thanks to our Rector Prof. Dr. Nükhet Hotar in this regard. I wish our laboratory, which will serve internal and external stakeholders and add value to our country, all the best." DEÜ Science and Technology Application and Research Centre Director Prof. Dr. Görkem Akıncı stated that the centre, with its modern infrastructure, will strengthen the scientific work conducted by the university.

TRY 30 million investment

The Central Research Laboratory, supported by the Presidency of Strategy and Budget of the Republic of Turkey, entered into service with an investment of approximately TRY 30 million. The centre, with a net laboratory usage area of 1,900 square metres, houses fast and economical multi-sample preparation systems, state-of-the-art scanning optical characterization and imaging systems, high-performance liquid chromatography systems providing superior precision measurements in research conducted in petrochemistry, pharmaceuticals, biochemistry, chemistry, environment, renewable energy and forensic sciences, as well as gas chromatography-mass spectrometry systems. The laboratory also contains numerous other laboratory equipment for sample preparation and precision measurement purposes, as well as dedicated weighing rooms and chemical storage rooms, fume hoods, clean rooms and laminar cabinets. The Central Research Laboratory will serve innovative research in science and engineering, enabling the development of new technologies and products. The laboratory, where postgraduate studies will also be conducted, will contribute to the provision of R&D services required by public institutions and organisations, entrepreneurs and the industrial sector.
