Manhattan's Crown, "The Crown Building," Entrusted to Ant Yapı

Ant Yapı has taken on the main contractor role for the renovation of "The Crown Building," one of New York's iconic buildings and known as the Crown of Manhattan. Built in 1921, The Crown Building will be converted into a hotel and residential complex by Ant Yapı as part of the project. With over 27 years of experience and having undertaken numerous diverse projects both domestically and internationally, Ant Yapı is among the 86 contractors that have carried out the most work internationally and is now beginning its first project in America. Ant Yapı will renovate The Crown Building, one of the symbols of New York City, and convert the building into a hotel and residential space. When the renewal project of The Crown Building, an architectural landmark of New York, is completed under Ant Yapı's main contractor role, it will become a new attraction hub comprising 26 apartments, 83 hotel rooms along with hotel lobbies, spa and pool, sports center, restaurants and a Jazz Club. Ant Yapı will complete and deliver the project, with a total construction investment value of USD 300 million, within 28 months as per the contract terms. Mehmet Okay, Chairman of the Board at Ant Yapı, noted that their first projects in America being the Crown of Manhattan, The Crown Building, holds particular significance for them, stating, "Since the early 1990s, as Ant Yapı, we have successfully undertaken numerous projects abroad, particularly in Russia and the Turkic Republics, and more recently in the United Kingdom. The Crown Building, whose main contractor role we have undertaken, is both our first project in America and one of New York's iconic buildings. For this reason, it holds particular importance for us. As Ant Yapı, we will continue to undertake new projects in the international arena," he said.

A Historic Structure That Gives Soul to New York

The original design of The Crown Building was commissioned in 1921 by August Heckscher, one of the wealthiest businessmen of the era, from Warren&Wetmore, one of the most prestigious architecture firms of that period. Warren&Wetmore's signature appears in the design of many other iconic buildings that shape New York's skyline and give the city its character, such as Grand Central Terminal. This historic building, which is virtually the memory of the city, was initially built under the name "Heckscher Building." The Crown Building, as it is now known, has hosted the Museum of Modern Arts and numerous prestigious art galleries for many years since its opening, and also has the distinction of being the first tall building constructed in Manhattan's Midtown area. This historic building consists of two basement levels, 25 regular floors and a roof section, with a height of 126 meters. The New York zoning plan published in 1916 provided for buildings to step back and create terraces as they rose in height. Being one of the first examples of this zoning plan, The Crown Building is among the structures most readily associated with New York. French Renaissance architectural details are notable on the building's facade, while its copper roof with gold leaf resembles a royal crown. This is why the designation of Crown of Manhattan is aptly applied.
