As Global Production Chains Transform, Attention Turns to Partnerships in Turkey

The global chemical sector is undergoing significant transformation in response to changing supply chains, energy costs and sustainable production targets. The sector, reaching approximately 6 trillion dollars in size, continues to be one of the fundamental building blocks of the global economy by supplying inputs to a broad manufacturing ecosystem ranging from automotive to defence, textiles to agriculture.

In Turkey, the chemical sector stands out for its export performance. According to data from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), Turkey's total exports reached 21.1 billion dollars in February 2026, with the chemical sector becoming the second-largest exporting sector at 2.3 billion dollars in exports.

Chemical sector strengthens strategic role
In the first two months of 2026, the chemical sector's total exports exceeded 4.5 billion dollars, while the sector, which reaches over 30 billion dollars in annual export volume, plays a critical role in Turkey's production and export infrastructure.

"Chemical industry is the invisible backbone of industry"
Ahmet Güler, drawing attention to the chemical sector's role in the production chain, stated the following:

"Chemical industry is often assessed only as plastic or petrochemical production. However, 27 different sectors, from automotive to defence, textiles to agriculture, energy to pharmaceuticals and health technology, directly depend on inputs provided by chemical industry. Therefore, chemical industry is actually the invisible backbone of industry."

Güler, emphasizing that the chemical sector does not only produce final products, noted that the sector plays a determining role in the economy through its contribution to the production capacity of other industrial branches.

Global transformation necessitates new collaborations
Recent geopolitical developments, fluctuations in energy costs and disruptions in supply chains are reshaping the production map of the chemical sector. In this process, the sector is undergoing transformation not only in production capacity but also in technology development and sustainability fields.

Ahmet Güler, drawing attention to the importance of international collaboration in this transformation process, noted that platforms where sector players can share knowledge play a critical role.

Güler, noting that collaborations between producers, suppliers and technology providers in the chemical sector are becoming increasingly important, emphasized that Turkchem Eurasia plays an important role at this point.

The fair aims to contribute to the evaluation of new technologies and the development of commercial collaborations by bringing together stakeholders operating in different areas of the sector.
