The 2nd Process Safety Symposium Organized by the Kocaeli Chamber of Industry Begins

The II. Process Safety Symposium, organized by Kocaeli Chamber of Industry to discuss new obligations brought by the updated 'Regulation on the Prevention of Major Industrial Accidents and Mitigation of Their Effects' to prevent major industrial accidents in the country, began on 9 April 2019 at Bilişim Vadisi. Process Safety Symposium opening was attended by Kocaeli Governor Hüseyin Aksoy, Bilişim Vadisi General Manager Ahmet Serdar İbrahimcioğlu, Kocaeli Chamber of Industry Board President Hasan Tahsin Tuğrul, and Kocaeli Chamber of Industry Board Member and Process Safety Symposium Organizing Committee Chairman Hasan Şerefhan. Within the scope of the Process Safety Symposium, the regulation updated in Turkey in March will be discussed in line with the SEVESO Directives applied in the EU for the prevention of major industrial accidents resulting in injuries, deaths, environmental and material damages, and mitigation of their effects. The Process Safety Symposium, which brings together public institutions, industry, universities, research and development centers, inspectors and certification bodies, will host approximately 2,000 participants and will continue for 2 days.

Kocaeli Governor Hüseyin Aksoy:

Announced that Kocaeli, which has 14 organized industrial zones, has one of its specialized organized industrial zones dedicated to the chemical sector. Aksoy noted that the companies most affected by the updated regulation on process safety are from the chemical sector. Aksoy said, "Addressing the matter of process safety, which encompasses both preventive measures related to major accidents and mitigation of their effects after an accident, in this symposium is of great importance for both our region and industrialists in our country. Within the scope of the Process Safety Symposium, the most current status of work on this subject in Turkey will be discussed together with all relevant parties."

Process Safety Symposium and Exhibition Organizing Committee Chairman Hasan Şerefhan:

Emphasized that with the updated 'Regulation on the Prevention of Major Industrial Accidents and Mitigation of Their Effects', companies need to prepare safety reports and major accident prevention policy documents. Şerefhan, pointing out that companies need to identify potential major industrial accident hazards and create scenarios, said that they also need to prepare emergency response plans showing how to act in the event of possible accidents.
