Sustainability Awards in the Chemical Sector

Sustainability Awards in the Chemicals Industry ICIS 2022 Innovation Awards announce their winners. ICIS has announced that specialty chemicals company Evonik has won this year's ICIS Innovation Awards with REWOFERM® RL 100, a sustainable rhamnolipid product that is revolutionizing the laundry detergent market. This prestigious award is given to companies that demonstrate high levels of innovation in products and processes as well as digital innovation, while also providing environmental benefits and making progress toward sustainability. Jury members from sponsor companies including BASF, Accenture, Barentz and Deloitte Consulting, along with NNFCC and ICIS, reviewed over 75 applications across six innovation categories. The awards and their winners were as follows: Best Digital Innovation from a Large Company: Eastman Chemical—Fluid Genius—digital innovation in heat transfer fluid management. Best Digital Innovation from a Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise (SME): Electric Ant Lab—digital research and development solution completing wet laboratory research. Best Process Innovation from a Large Company: Clariant Catalysts and Technip Energies—EARTH® reducing carbon footprint and improving operations in steam reforming. Best Process Innovation from an SME: Gree Novel—a process for contaminated plastic recycling and metal extraction from e-waste using advanced chemicals and microwave technology. Best Product Innovation from a Large Company: Evonik Operations—REWOFERM® RL 100, this sustainable product is revolutionizing the laundry detergent market. Best Product Innovation from an SME: Genomatica—a new bio-based nylon-6 for textiles, films and plastics advancing toward reducing greenhouse gases in commercialization. Will Beacham, deputy editor of ICIS chemicals business and chair of the jury, said: "Innovation has become more important than ever in securing the future of our planet and the chemicals industry in an environment where the global economy is in turmoil and zero carbon targets are on the agenda. The ICIS Innovation Awards allow us to celebrate the industry's contribution to a sustainable future." Evonik Board Member and Head of Nutrition and Care Johann-Caspar Gammelin stated: "REWOFERM RL 100 demonstrates that we can use this innovative platform to address various circular economy challenges in our sector, such as biodegradability.
