Chemical Industry Ranks Second in Exports

The Istanbul Chemical Substances and Products Exporters Association (İKMİB) reported that chemical exports in February reached USD 1.6 billion, representing a 29.8% increase compared to February 2018. The chemical industry thereby became the second-largest exporting sector for the second time in 2019. In February 2019, the chemical sector ranked second among sectors with the highest export growth at 29.8%. Adil Pelister, Chairman of the Board of the Istanbul Chemical Substances and Products Exporters Association (İKMİB), evaluated the chemical industry's February export figures. Pelister stated: "The export performance of the chemical industry, one of Turkey's largest exporting sectors, continues to rise. Following January, the chemical industry also succeeded in becoming the second-largest exporting sector with its performance in February. February chemical exports reached USD 1.6 billion, up 29.8% compared to the same period last year. Our chemical exports, which stood at USD 1.3 billion in February 2018, increased by 29.8% and ranked second among sectors with the highest export growth. I congratulate everyone who contributed to this success of our sector. We will continue to support our sector through domestic and international events that we will hold this year. Particularly in addition to the target markets mentioned by our Ministry of Commerce—China, India, Mexico, Russia, and the United States market—there are also significant opportunities for our exports in African countries. We will continue to bring together our exporting companies that wish to capitalize on these opportunities with potential buyers."
