Business World Optimistic About Digitalization in 2021

Gorgün Özdemir, Chairman of the Board of Türkiye Kalite Derneği, expressed his belief that the positive returns from digitalization investments will be seen in 2021, regarding the business world's expectations for that year.

Türkiye Kalite Derneği (KalDer) Chairman of the Board Görgün Özdemir said, "The rapid changes in business practices and consumption habits, the continuation of innovative ideas, providing opportunities to talented youth open to development, and the positive returns from digitalization investments will be seen in 2021."

Speaking about companies that did not see returns on their digitalization investments made during the pandemic in 2020, Özdemir said, "I do not think this situation where investments do not meet expectations will last very long. Traditional trends have long since given way to the digital world with the pandemic. In 2020, many different companies entered our lives. The positive returns from digitalization investments will be seen in 2021 with the rapid changes in business practices and consumption habits, the continuation of innovative ideas, and providing opportunities to talented youth open to development."

Özdemir noted that at the current stage of technology, even the internet has taken on a different dimension, stating, "We are in a time when communicating objects collect data and completely change the production process, and interaction between machines and people stands out. We are experiencing a period in which digitalization has risen with the pandemic. We can determine our future strategies by correctly measuring competitive conditions, applicability, and efficiency." Gorgün Özdemir, pointing out that the pandemic has accelerated changes in the business world, added: "The business world was forced to reorganize itself in response to the pandemic. The manufacturing sector took precautions in a short time and continues to add value to the economy and development. During this period, we learned how important crisis management plans are for institutions and that actions must be included for vital issues such as pandemics and disasters in future crisis scenarios. On the other hand, there are still businesses closed due to the pandemic's continuation. While the state provided resources to businesses and employees, we saw how much solidarity increased in society. We became familiar with a limited and controlled social life. There is no doubt that the pandemic has affected every individual and institution, and the announced vaccine news gave hope to society."

Özdemir, noting that KalDer should be utilized in business world and social life conditions, said, "Total Quality Management began to show its effects significantly in our country in the 1980s, and its prevalence in the private sector increased with KalDer's establishment in 1990. Shortly after its establishment, KalDer removed the concept of quality from the private sector's monopoly and quickly included public institutions in the quality world by encouraging them."

Touching on the importance of quality management, Özdemir said, "Quality is now being applied at much higher levels than where it started. Regardless of whether it is the private or public sector, I recommend that organizations familiarize themselves without delay with the EFQM Model in this period to achieve superior performance results, meet stakeholder expectations, and ensure sustainability. I would like to emphasize that the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals are now part of our model as of 2020. I believe that implementing the new EFQM Model in the new year will provide significant contributions to organizations."   Source: AA
