The Pharmaceutical Industry Employers' Association (İEİS), a leading organization in the pharmaceutical sector, and Marmara University, one of Turkey's leading universities, signed an important protocol in the field of pharmaceutical education and human resources on 27 March 2018. The protocol, signed by İEİS Board Chairman Nezih Barut and Marmara University Faculty of Pharmacy Dean Prof. Dr. Güniz Küçükgüzel, aims to train pharmacists equipped to meet the pharmaceutical industry's needs and create employment opportunities for pharmacists in fields aligned with their education. The protocol includes provisions for shaping undergraduate students' internship processes and research projects in accordance with the pharmaceutical industry's requirements, directing graduate students toward appropriate postgraduate projects, and conducting work to establish the curriculum of Marmara University's Faculty of Pharmacy and İEİS in line with the pharmaceutical industry's needs. With this protocol, the number of universities cooperating with İEİS has increased to 5. İEİS Board Chairman Nezih Barut, sharing his views on the matter, said that as a pharmaceutical industry they believe strongly in university cooperation and are conducting multifaceted efforts to develop this relationship. Barut: "Encouraging and supporting talented and motivated young people who aim to pursue careers in the pharmaceutical sector; this is a shared responsibility of universities and industry. Both parties are now much more sensitive and conscious about this matter. It is our duty to educate qualified and competent young people who will work in every area of our industry and bring them into our sector," he said. "In this context, we are in close contact and cooperation with our universities. As İEİS, we have research and development and human resources cooperation protocols with Ankara, Hacettepe, Gazi and Istanbul universities, which are among the 10 research universities recently announced by our President. We are very pleased to be in cooperation with Marmara University in this respect as well," he said. Speaking at the ceremony, Marmara University Faculty of Pharmacy Dean Prof. Dr. Güniz Küçükgüzel stated: "As one of our country's leading faculties of pharmacy, we place great importance on university-industry cooperation and are conducting work in this area. With this protocol, today we are adding a new chapter to our efforts in this direction. I wish for our cooperation to be beneficial for our country, our university, and the pharmaceutical industry," she said.
