Exporters Need to Join E-Export Networks for Their 2023 Target

In 2021, with the world population reaching 8 billion, it was predicted that more than 2 billion would engage in online shopping. Cenk Çiğdemli, Member of TOBB E-Commerce Council and Founder of Ticimax E-Commerce Systems, stated: "Thanks to the e-commerce initiatives indicated by the Export Master Plan in line with Turkey's 2023 targets, we can exceed the 200 billion dollar threshold in exports in the short term."

Towards the 2023 Target

Çiğdemli noted that digital transformation, Industry 4.0, state incentives, Turkey's logistical position and air transport network—factors that have a multiplier effect on exports—have also enriched e-export channels. "The contribution of online channels to export figures, which increase year on year, is significant. For our 2023 targets, it is essential that all our exporters join e-export networks as soon as possible," he said.

Leading Export Sectors

According to TİM's latest export data, the sector with the highest export growth in our country is Defence and Aerospace with a 46.5 percent increase. This is followed by Ornamental Plants with 30 percent growth and Cement Glass Ceramic and Earth Products with 29 percent growth. In numerical terms, the leading export sectors are, respectively, Automotive, Chemicals and Apparel and Clothing. In August alone, 1,219 new companies started exporting. Turkish exporters reach 223 countries and regions, with exports to 56 of these countries increasing by more than 50 percent. The countries with the highest exports are, respectively, Germany, United Kingdom and Iraq. The share of exports to European Union countries in the total is 48 percent. Looking at export figures by province, it is seen that 45 provinces increased their exports. The most striking increases occurred in Yalova, which increased its exports 17-fold, Muğla with 37 percent growth, and Malatya with 34 percent growth. The Shipbuilding and Yacht sector was instrumental in Yalova's export growth, while Aquatic Products and Animal Products lead in Muğla and Malatya. The sector exporting to the most countries is the steel sector with 54 countries. It is followed by the Chemicals sector with 45 countries and Cereals with 35 countries.
