ICG Spring School 2026, which counted Şişecam, a global player in the glass and chemicals sectors, among its sponsors, was held in Spain between 19-24 April. The biennial event, regarded as one of the world's most prestigious organizations in glass science and technology, brought together international postgraduate students, young professionals, academics and sector representatives.
The program, which strengthened knowledge sharing between academia and industry, comprehensively evaluated current developments and solution areas for ensuring sustainability in glass production. Sessions spanning a broad range—from furnace design to raw material selection, from melting processes to recycling practices—highlighted approaches to reducing carbon footprint.
The program also addressed topics shaping the sector's future, including the role of glass and glass-ceramic materials in clean energy technologies, composition-structure-property relationships in glass, modeling methods used in developing next-generation glass formulations and artificial intelligence applications.
Participants gained a multifaceted learning experience through content enriched with examples from real industrial applications alongside theoretical knowledge, while the event also contributed to establishing a strong international network supporting interdisciplinary collaborations.

Within the scope of ICG Spring School 2026, Şişecam executives actively contributed to the program by sharing their knowledge and experience with participants.
Dr. Gökce Yüce, Head of Digital Technologies and Simulation Services at Şişecam, presented work on digital twin architecture developed for glass melting furnaces, while Dr. Gülin Demirok, Glass Fiber Product Development Specialist and Productivity Management Program Project Manager at Şişecam, shared with participants the effects of alternative raw materials on melting and refining behavior in E-glass batches.
