Young Scientist Awards Presented for the 11th Time

The Young Scientist Awards, organized by the Bilim Kahramanları Derneği, found their recipients for the 11th time this year. Held annually in cooperation with different universities, the awards aim to publicly honor young researchers under the age of 38 who contribute to Turkey's scientific development in the fields of basic sciences and engineering.

The Young Scientist Awards, organized by the Science Heroes Association, found their recipients for the 11th time this year. Held annually in cooperation with different universities, the awards aim to honor young researchers under 38 years of age who contribute to the country's scientific development in basic sciences and engineering fields.

At the in-person ceremony held for the first time in two years, five young scientists selected from 146 applications received their awards on 8 December at an event held in Bahçeşehir University Fazıl Say Hall. The ceremony was attended by numerous guests from academia, the business world and civil society.

Five Scientists Deemed Worthy of Awards
Following the evaluation of the selection committee, the 2024 Young Scientist Awards were presented to the following:

-Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatih Mehmet Yılmaz – Aydın Adnan Menderes University

-Prof. Dr. Metin Gençten – Yıldız Technical University

-Dr. Nur Mustafaoğlu – Sabancı University

-Assoc. Prof. Dr. Safacan Kölemen – Koç University

-Assoc. Prof. Dr. Saniye Söylemez – Necmettin Erbakan University

This year's award ceremony was hosted by Bahçeşehir University Rector Prof. Dr. Esra Hatipoğlu, Istanbul Technical University Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal and Uşak University Rector Prof. Dr. Ekrem Savaş.

Emphasis on Science and Young Researchers at Ceremony
Science Heroes Association Board Chairman Prof. Dr. Sıddıka Semahat Demir, who delivered the opening remarks of the ceremony, drew attention to the future-oriented work of young researchers and stated:

"We congratulate all the young scientists who applied and received awards. We believe their work will continue to guide the way toward a better and more sustainable world. As Atatürk expressed: 'The truest guide in life is science and reason.'"

Bahçeşehir University Rector Prof. Dr. Esra Hatipoğlu emphasized the importance of supporting young academics, while Istanbul Technical University Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal noted that science must be produced together with society.

Uşak University Rector Prof. Dr. Ekrem Savaş expressed that the work of young scientists sheds light on the country's scientific future.
