French Embassy Announces Call for Environmental Projects

The French Embassy in Turkey has announced a second call for projects on the occasion of 22 April International Earth Day, to support civil society organisations engaged in environmental protection, circular economy and climate action.

Applications open until 23 May 2021

Civil society organisations wishing to benefit from funding totalling EUR 30,000 may submit their projects by 23 May 2021. Three to five projects selected by the jury will be announced in June. France has identified biodiversity protection as one of the priorities of its diplomatic agenda and is leading numerous efforts, particularly by hosting the IUCN World Conservation Congress in 2021 and working to achieve agreement at COP15 on the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), which will take place in 2021. Protecting resources, our environment and our health, and allowing economic and industrial development of regions, reducing waste and discards: circular economy is an economic model aimed at addressing these challenges. The European Green Deal presented by the European Commission therefore envisaged a new action plan for the circular economy, published in March 2020. France is committed, at various levels, to improving access to quality water in particular, reducing air, water and soil pollution, and to the adoption of an international framework for water and sanitation services, management of chemicals and hazardous waste, and reducing plastic and microplastic pollution. There is clear scientific consensus on the anthropogenic origin of climate change, the effects of which are already visible in human life and will become more pronounced in the near future. To address this challenge, the Paris Climate Agreement, implemented under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) at COP21 in 2015, was accepted by countries with a large majority. The Paris Agreement, currently in force, must be fully implemented. In this context, the next phase of international mobilisation will take place at COP26, to be held in Glasgow in November 2021. Projects selected under this call will aim to respond to these themes. In particular, they will help raise public awareness on international issues, strengthen the technical capacities of civil society organisations, define strategies, implement conservation actions and/or disseminate good environmental practices.
