FANUC Offers Innovative Solution to Fight World Hunger

According to a report from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the world is far off track from its goal to eliminate hunger by 2030. Data shows that in 2023, approximately 733 million people—one in eleven people globally—faced hunger. FANUC, a Japan-based company that continues to implement sustainable improvements across its entire product range, is supporting green agriculture practices with robots that have proven their capabilities in the agricultural sector, thereby taking its place in the world's fight against hunger.

While the number of people facing or expected to face "catastrophe/famine" levels reached 1.9 million in 2024, epidemic diseases and wars have caused supply chain disruptions that directly affect countries' agricultural production. With the steadily growing global population and deepening effects of the climate crisis, insufficient agricultural output is making access to healthy food increasingly difficult. FANUC, a pioneer of innovation in agriculture and a developer of robots that increase productivity in agricultural production in response to food crisis, offers tailored solutions for crop harvesting and palletizing in agricultural operations. The LR Mate 200iD and M-410iC/185 robots developed by FANUC perform with high efficiency at every stage of the food journey, from raw materials to finished product.

Resilience, productivity and sustainability in agricultural production

The LR Mate 200iD, a robot that can harvest crops in the field or greenhouse with millimetric precision even in the tightest spaces, is used by the Dutch company Sweeper. Thanks to its integrated camera, it detects ripe peppers in the field. Performing with high efficiency under harsh conditions, high temperatures and humidity, the robot also prevents the greenhouse gas emissions caused by peppers that fall to the ground. Designed specifically for palletizing tasks, the M-410iC/185, with its 4-axis configuration, delivers superior performance in rapid palletizing, assembly, processing and parts transfer applications of up to 185 kg.
