Eti Bakır R&D Center Officially Registered
The Eti Bakır R&D Center has been officially registered by the Ministry of Industry and Technology. With its ties to academia now formalized, the Eti Bakır R&D Center will increase the number of projects it develops with universities both in Turkey and abroad.
Eti Bakır R&D Center has been registered with the Ministry of Industry and Technology. This formal recognition of its links with the academic world will enable Eti Bakır R&D Center to increase the number of projects developed with universities both abroad and in Turkey.
Eti Bakır's R&D Center in Samsun obtained the 'R&D Center' certificate as of 30 January 2026 following inspections conducted by the Ministry of Industry and Technology under Law No. 5746. With the registration certificate obtained, Eti Bakır R&D Center, which now has easier access to high-tech equipment and devices needed to strengthen technical capabilities, will serve as a technical asset for Turkey's entire mining sector with its technology-development structure.
Eti Bakır R&D Director İbrahim Göktaş stated that holding the R&D center title is not a destination but a visa obtained to play in the global league, saying: "This title will transform us from a 'problem-solving' structure to a 'technology-developing' one. The greatest value it will add to us will be institutionalization and discipline. We are combining the wealth underground with the intellect and science above ground. Thanks to this registration, our access to qualified human resources as well as funds and grant programs opened specifically for R&D centers will be easier. Every project in which we are included through the registration certificate will bring another project along with it."
University – Industry Collaboration Projects
Stating that this certificate has formalized the links between the academic world and Eti Bakır R&D Center, Göktaş said they will make university-industry collaboration a business model. Noting that relations established with universities will be strengthened further and joint projects will increase, Göktaş continued as follows: "In the world, the mining sector is no longer measured only by reserve quantity but by how efficiently and sustainably you process those reserves. Eti Bakır has always approached mining 'scientifically'. With our R&D Center, we are now proving this. In the coming period, we will apply for Turkish Accreditation Authority (TURKAK) certification to further increase our trusted activities abroad."
