ERASYS: Efficiency-Focused Transformation in Industry Paves the Way for Global Competitiveness

Rising energy costs, fluctuations in raw material prices and global competitive pressure are prompting industrial companies to make their production processes more efficient. Unplanned downtime, unnecessary waiting periods, incorrect material flow and high stock levels in production, meanwhile, increase both the economic and environmental costs for businesses.

Rising energy costs, raw material price fluctuations and global competitive pressure are driving industrial facilities to make their production processes more efficient. Unplanned shutdowns, unnecessary waiting times, incorrect material flow and high inventory levels increase both economic and environmental costs for operations.

Hakan Cengiz, Founder and Managing Partner of ERASYS, noted that sustainable competitive advantage in industry is achievable through improvements to existing processes rather than new investments, and stated that productivity initiatives implemented through lean manufacturing and Kaizen practices provide operations with significant cost savings and capacity increases.

Productivity is now a strategic competitive factor
Cengiz noted that sustainability in industry cannot be achieved through renewable energy investments or new machinery purchases alone, and said that reducing losses in current production processes offers operations significant advantages.

He emphasized that optimizing energy and raw material use, making more effective use of existing capacity and improving processes both reduce costs and increase operations' competitive strength.

Productivity projects across more than 60 manufacturing facilities
ERASYS has been providing engineering and consulting services to manufacturing facilities since 2009; it operates in the areas of process improvement, lean manufacturing, factory and production line design, automation and warehouse and logistics optimization.

The company states that in projects conducted at more than 60 manufacturing facilities to date:

Productivity increases of 20 to 115 percent,
Capacity utilization increases of 15 to 80 percent

have been achieved, and that this directly contributes to operations' profitability.

"The solution in manufacturing is not new investment, but proper process management"
Hakan Cengiz stated that a significant portion of efficiency losses in manufacturing facilities stem not from machinery inadequacy but from process failures, and said that many operations turn first to new investment options to increase competitive strength.

Cengiz noted that there is substantial productivity potential in manufacturing facilities within current processes, and stated that unplanned shutdowns, unnecessary waiting times, incorrect material flow, high inventory levels and non-standard practices cause capacity losses.

He emphasized that it is possible to reach higher production levels with the same machinery and existing workforce through processes that are properly analyzed and improved.

"Digital transformation starts on the shop floor"
Cengiz noted that for digital investment to be successful, production processes must first be restructured according to lean manufacturing principles, and pointed out that technology alone does not provide productivity.

Cengiz stated that digital transformation investments carried out without standardizing production processes may not deliver expected benefits, and noted that true transformation is possible through addressing process management and technology together.

Cengiz noted that proper process management forms the foundation of digital transformation in industry, and added that for operations to gain sustainable competitive advantage, productivity-focused transformation carries strategic importance.
