Enerjisa continues its education support

Sabancı Vakfı and Enerjisa Enerji open Enerjisa Atatürk Primary School in Hatay's Hassa district through collaboration. Sabancı Vakfı and Enerjisa Enerji continue working to address the aftermath of the earthquake centred in Kahramanmaraş that affected 10 provinces. To ensure education resumed in Hatay, one of the disaster areas, the initiative "3 Schools in 3 Months for Hatay" was launched in 2023. Sabancı Vakfı, having delivered the schools on schedule as planned, with contributions from E.ON, the foreign shareholder of Enerjisa Enerji, opened the Enerjisa Atatürk Primary School in Hatay's Hassa district on 23 April, National Sovereignty and Children's Day, celebrated with students and teachers. The ceremony was attended by Hassa District Governor Osman Acar, Hassa District National Education Director Sait Sancaktar, Sabancı Vakfı General Director Nevgül Bilsel Safkan, Enerjisa Distribution Companies General Director Oğuzhan Özsürekçi, Enerjisa Enerji CFO Dr. Philipp Ulbrich, E.ON Foundation General Director Dr. Stephan Muschick, as well as students and teachers. Activities for children were also organised at the ceremony.

Fourth school opening in the region

To enable education to continue from where it left off, Sabancı Group Companies and Sabancı Vakfı opened 3 schools in Hatay. Sabancı Vakfı, which launched the "3 Schools in 3 Months for Hatay" initiative, completed the Enerjisa Hatay Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Reyhanlı district, construction of which had begun before the earthquake, and opened it on 23 April 2023. The Sabancı Lassa Secondary School in Dörtyol district and Sabancı Arsuz Secondary School in Arsuz were completed and began education in the 2023-2024 academic year on 19 May and 21 June respectively. Sabancı Vakfı General Director Nevgül Bilsel Safkan stated that they mobilised all available resources to ensure education-teaching did not suffer in the earthquake zone. Safkan said, "We know education is a priority area in solving social problems, and our foundation, which is turning 50, has conducted its work in this context since its establishment. Following the major earthquakes that shook our country deeply, ensuring students and teachers were together in a school environment and that education-teaching activities continued safely were among our priorities. In line with this goal, after getting through the initial shock of the earthquake, we embarked on the '3 Schools in 3 Months for Hatay' initiative for uninterrupted education. We are fortunate to have completed the Enerjisa Hatay Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, Sabancı Lassa Secondary School and Sabancı Arsuz Secondary School in record time. Last year, while excited to open our first school on 23 April, National Sovereignty and Children's Day, which carries great significance for us, we now experience the joy of bringing our fourth school to students and teachers a year later. We realised the Enerjisa Atatürk Primary School through donations from Enerjisa Enerji and its foreign shareholder E.ON. As an institution that has experienced the impact of collaboration, we will continue to join forces with different stakeholders for quality education and work to the best of our ability" he said.

Demonstrating commitment to post-earthquake recovery

Enerjisa Enerji CFO Dr. Philipp Ulbrich also made remarks at the ceremony. Speaking on behalf of the E.ON group and its 70,000 employees, Ulbrich said, "Within just days after the earthquake, our employees and company raised more than 1 million euros, and we decided to build this school in Hassa. You can imagine what a wonderful feeling it is to see the donations transformed into something that will truly help people so deeply affected here. Therefore, my presence here today expresses both E.ON and Enerjisa's commitment to post-earthquake recovery and solidarity with the local population. The cooperation between Enerjisa Enerji and E.ON in Turkey exemplifies a vital plan for sustainable economic prosperity, and the structure standing before us today stands as proof of our joint efforts and the responsibilities we have undertaken. Finally, together with Sabancı and E.ON, I wish to reiterate our unwavering commitment to playing an important role in leaving a more prosperous world for future generations and nurturing a sustainable future," he said.

Restored electricity distribution infrastructure to pre-earthquake network capacity

Enerjisa Distribution Companies General Director Oğuzhan Özsürekçi said, "Of the 11 provinces affected by the earthquakes on 6 February 2023, 5 of them, primarily Hatay, fall within the area of responsibility of Toroslar EDAŞ, one of our Enerjisa Distribution Companies. We are an earthquake-affected company with both lost colleagues and damaged network assets. From the acute phases of the earthquake, we fought hard to heal our own wounds and, with an investment of TRY 1.9 billion, restored the electricity distribution infrastructure, our main business line, to pre-earthquake network capacity by the first anniversary of the earthquake. We continue our work in this regard at full pace," he said. Özsürekçi emphasised that they have also contributed to meeting the education needs, which are as important as electrical infrastructure for the region's development, saying, "After realising the promise of 3 schools in 3 months in Hatay, we take pride and joy in opening Enerjisa Atatürk Primary School, our 4th school in the region, thanks to donations from our shareholder E.ON. As we continue to set an example for the electricity distribution sector for a better future, we also continue to meet the needs of the earthquake zone." he said.
