Enerjisa Continues Efforts to Heal Wounds of Earthquake Disaster

Enerjisa Enerji continues to work at full capacity on reconstruction efforts in the region following the 6 February earthquake disaster that devastated Turkey. In areas negatively affected by the earthquakes that occurred on 6 February last year, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide credit support of up to USD 100 million to support investments in the modernization and reconstruction of Toroslar EDAŞ's electricity distribution network.

Reliable and stable energy for over 163,000 people

The earthquakes, which caused extensive damage and claimed the lives of tens of thousands of people, also affected the lives of those living in temporary shelters. Through the project to be implemented, reliable and stable energy will be provided to over 163,000 people living in earthquake-affected areas. Enerjisa Enerji, reaching more than 10 million customers across 14 different provinces and providing electricity distribution services to over 22 million people, supplies electricity services to 1 in every 4 people. Enerjisa Enerji, which carries out human, solution and innovation-focused activities in its areas of responsibility and operates with a sustainable quality service approach, is an important private sector player in the Toroslar region. Through cooperation with the Regional Reconstruction and Development Centre (RRDC), it aims to support strategic planning of human capital, income generation and sustainable economic development initiatives for the economic, social, cultural and civil society reconstruction and development in the earthquake region. Enerjisa Enerji's initiatives, in cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), will focus on programs in areas such as creating livelihoods for the affected population in the region, imparting sustainable skills in agriculture and energy efficiency training modules, and will also be shaped through various projects aimed at workforce protection and employment. Following the earthquakes, the EBRD announced a comprehensive two-year support program worth EUR 1.5 billion, through which it will provide credit amounts to individuals and companies affected by the earthquake, as well as incentives for infrastructure investments, small and medium-sized enterprises and private sector partnerships.

Enerjisa Enerji Chief Financial Officer Philipp Ulbrich said: "Our new credit agreement with the EBRD will be the driving force behind the reconstruction and modernization of the electricity infrastructure of our cities damaged in the February earthquake. We are aware of our responsibility to our people, and this credit agreement is also part of our commitment to a long-term, sustainable energy future. While this credit will help us rebuild electricity infrastructure, it will also contribute to the development of the region. The EBRD's support for this project and willingness to cooperate is a positive step for both our company and the people of the region. Through the income generated from the credit, Enerjisa Enerji will also be able to reduce energy losses and prevent 82,000 tons of carbon emissions annually. EBRD Eurasia, Middle East and Africa Energy Director Aida Sitdikova welcomed the cooperation, saying: "Since the earthquakes, we have been working closely with our customers to move forward with improvements and reconstruction in the region. Our partnership with Enerjisa will ensure uninterrupted electricity distribution in the affected cities and will support the region's reconstruction in a stronger and more sustainable manner." she expressed her views. To date, the EBRD has invested more than EUR 19.1 billion in the Turkish economy, primarily in the private sector.
