EDDMİB's Steel Exports Reach $2 Billion

The Aegean Iron and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters Association (EDDMİB), the only union under the Aegean Exporters Unions to exceed the USD 2 billion export threshold, increased its exports by 74 percent over the past year to USD 2 billion 421 million. The Aegean Iron and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters Association maintained its position as the union with the highest exports in February with an export volume of USD 211 million 640 thousand, while raising its exports by 37 percent. Yalçın Ertan, Chairman of the Aegean Iron and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters Association, stated that considering changes in raw material prices, war and global economic factors, the union's 2022 target is to match the previous year's exports. Ertan said, "As of the end of February, EDDMİB has earned USD 2 billion 389 million for our country over the past year. With the first 10 days of March, our exports reached USD 2 billion 421 million. We envisage increasing our exports in a similar manner in 2022. For this to happen, our exports must be supported with correct financing models. Correct steps must be taken in terms of financing policies."

Iron and steel exports rose from 187 thousand tons to 275 thousand tons

Emphasizing that they achieved USD 421 million in exports with 57 percent momentum in the January-February period, Ertan said, "Our iron and steel exports reached USD 313 million with a 47 percent increase by volume and a 75 percent increase by value, our copper exports reached USD 58 million with a 21 percent increase by value, our aluminium exports reached USD 16 million with a 16 percent increase, and our metal exports reached USD 32 million with a 21 percent increase. Our iron and steel exports, which constitute the largest share of our exports, rose from 187 thousand tons to 275 thousand tons. We are seeing similar increases in our other product categories."

Iron and steel exports to European countries increased by 61 percent

Stating that they exported to 159 countries in the first 2 months of 2022, Yalçın Ertan said that exports to European countries rank first, and they achieved USD 211 million in exports with 61 percent momentum in the January-February period. Ertan said that exports showed an increase of 57 percent to African countries, 28 percent to American countries, 50 percent to former Eastern Bloc countries, and 138 percent to Middle Eastern countries, adding, "Among the leading countries in our exports are Yemen, Germany, USA, United Kingdom, Egypt, Italy, Bulgaria, Canada, Israel and France, where we achieved increases reaching up to 500 percent. We observe upward trends in exports to Asian and Oceanic countries, particularly Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Japan and Australia. Looking at the past year's exports across Turkey, our iron and steel sector achieved 73 percent growth with USD 36 billion 639 million in exports in the sectoral export rankings, maintaining its leading position. Thus, our sector's share of Turkey's total exports reached 15 percent."
