Dow to Establish Comfort Science Center of Excellence

Dow Polyurethanes, a business unit of Dow, has announced that it will invest in its research and development laboratories in Horgen to establish a "ComfortScience Center of Excellence" for bedding solutions. The Center of Excellence to be established will enable collaboration among bed value chain partners to scientifically create sleep materials that deliver the most comfortable experience possible, and will also support and further develop Dow's SleepStudio, which is also located in Horgen. The Center of Excellence will house specialized equipment such as a new foam production line from Laader Berg, a CNC foam cutting machine and pillow production machines for the manufacturing and testing of materials that will ensure the bed is comfortable before it meets the customer. The enhanced laboratory facilities together with the existing SleepStudio will enable Dow's customers to accelerate product development and innovation under one roof with capabilities that can help produce solutions. Paul Cookson, Global Innovation Manager at Dow SleepStudio, said: "We chose Laader Berg's machine because of its reputation in the industry for manufacturing quality foam block machines. The Maxfoam Concept Pro machine has world-class technology that will enable us to produce a wide variety of polyurethane foams for our customers under the same conditions." The new equipment will advance Dow's research and development and prototype development capabilities for mattresses and pillows. The ComfortScience Center of Excellence will enable the design of liquid formulations that will be applied in new machine lines with the latest features tested at SleepStudio.
