The 5th ‘Digital Field Day’ Held

Tat Gıda held the 5th "Digital Field Day" under its "Tomato Leaders Programme," which was launched to support farmer development and increase communication with farmers. Solution partner companies of Tat Gıda, which attracted strong farmer participation, shared current technologies and practices in digital farming at their exhibition stands. Tat Gıda introduced the "Tat Lider Çiftçi mobile application" and meteorological weather stations located at four contractual points. The company also shared information on plant health, irrigation, pest monitoring, soil sensors and field control via drone using satellite and image processing technologies.

Hakan Turan, General Manager Assistant of Trade and Operations at Tat Gıda, said the following regarding the topic, noting that they had the opportunity to meet with producers at the Digital Field Day event, which has become traditional, and share the projects they developed and current technologies:

"We successfully completed our Digital Field Day event this year, with which we embarked on a digitalization vision. We thank our valued farmers and solution partners for their participation. With the "Tomato Leaders Programme," which we have been running for a long time, we focused on three main topics: farmer development and training, close communication and digital transformation in agriculture. By working in close dialogue with our farmers, we provide training on international-standard agricultural practices. While leading the sector with digitalization and smart applications we have implemented for them, we place carrying agriculture into the future through our continuous investments at the top of our agenda."  

Turan, noting that they have started tomato production with a "Digital Farm Field" concept to contribute to the development of industrial tomato farming, continued his remarks as follows:

"We must invest in sustainability in agriculture to use less fertilizer and water, reduce chemicals, zero out our carbon footprint and increase productivity. We share the successful results we achieve in the field with our farmers. We are pleased to see them becoming increasingly aware of this issue with each passing day."  

We increased fuel and water savings

"Through smart technologies and the Tat Lider Çiftçi Mobile Application, we provide farmers with preliminary information. We analyze plant health with satellite images and, with guidance from our agricultural engineers, provide farmers with information free of charge through the application. From the application, receivables-payables-tonnage tracking can be done and satellite photographs can be viewed. With digital soil analysis, we can get results within minutes; with auto-steering tractors we ensure efficient field use and fuel savings. Through sensors, we can achieve water savings thanks to humidity control."  

Provides yield increase of up to 10%

Noting that satellite-based plant health monitoring on contracted fields provides yield increases of up to 10%, Turan stated that satellite-based water requirement monitoring will begin on contracted fields in the coming year, continuing as follows: "We have 4 different meteorological stations covering all our contracted areas. Additionally, we are switching from manual pest monitoring, which we previously conducted, to camera-based monitoring. With soil sensors we collect data from fields on soil moisture and temperature, and provide irrigation recommendations."
