Geothermal energy, as a clean energy option based on renewable energy sources, has the potential to play a greater role in energy systems in the future. Geothermal heat can complement other renewable energy sources and, when combined with heat pumps, can meet 15-30% of heat demand in large district heating systems. The resources to be obtained through the use of geothermal energy and heat pumps could meet 10-15% of Denmark's total energy needs. Additionally, geothermal energy could play a key role in ensuring the security of green energy sources in the future. Lars Tveen, Head of the Heating Group at Danfoss, which has frequently been mentioned in connection with district heating projects, said on the matter: "Potentially, geothermal energy represents for the heating system what wind represents for the electricity system. Since the prerequisite for using geothermal heat is district heating, we see great potential in this ambitious project. We are willing to support this project because alongside opportunities to further develop our heating business, we are committed to the transition to renewable energy." he said. A.P. Møller Holding is among Denmark's leading companies in district heating systems, energy supply and research, and the development and extraction of subsurface resources. A partnership will be established through A.P. Møller Holding and Danfoss Heating Group. Danfoss Heating Group has assigned an expert team to support the project in the fields of energy supply and district heating systems in Denmark. The project team will also focus on creating the tools and policies necessary to reveal Denmark's geothermal energy potential.
