DAGEM's Bee Venom Project Receives Approval
Kekeçoğlu made the following comments on the project:
"Honey bee venom, whose technological and industrial production is still very new worldwide, has a widespread application in cosmetics and health. Comprehensive research, production and training activities related to honey bee venom have been initiated at Düzce Üniversitesi Arıcılık Araştırma Geliştirme ve Uygulama Merkezi. With the training, workshops and scientific studies conducted at our university, production in Turkey and its use in the cosmetics sector have begun to spread rapidly. Thanks to our project supported by TUBITAK, the production factors affecting the quality of honey bee venom, which producers frequently ask about, will be determined and quality production standards will be established. In light of the data obtained as a result of the project, questions and problems of producers and suppliers will be addressed. Additionally, it will contribute to the creation of regulations or good manufacturing practices to be prepared by the ministry regarding honey bee venom production."General Information
Düzce Üniversitesi Arıcılık Araştırma Geliştirme ve Uygulama Merkezi (DAGEM) was established as a unit under Düzce Üniversitesi Rectorate within the framework of the regulation published in the Official Gazette dated 18 May 2009 and numbered 27232. By Düzce Üniversitesi Rectorate decision no. 211-1006/3683 dated 20 August 2009, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Meral Kekeçoğlu was appointed Director of DAGEM. The first administrative board of DAGEM was established on 4 March 2010 with the approval of Düzce Üniversitesi Rectorate decision no. 211-761-1060.
The Centre carries out its research and application activities at the application field in Hoşafoğlu location in Yığılca district, and has a DAGEM liaison office in the Rectorate building in Konuralp.
DAGEM has set as its priority objective to conduct activities in improving regional and national apiculture and contributing to solving problems in the sector, and to develop projects on both scientific and socio-economic issues. The Centre carries out various TUBITAK, MARKA, DUBAP and EU-supported projects related to molecular-based research, bee biology, bee breeding, bee races, bee diseases, bee products, development of modern equipment used in apiculture and beekeeper training.
Since its establishment, DAGEM has prepared 20 scientific and 7 social projects, and organised 30 apiculture training courses and various seminars in different provinces and districts. A total of 670 people of all ages and genders have been trained. Participation in 51 national and international conferences where the results of the work conducted were shared has been realised. In addition to these, it has made important contributions to the apiculture sector on a societal and scientific level through 40 scientific articles at national and international level.
