Extended Transport Times and Changing Climate Conditions in the Supply Chain

The perishable and easily degradable nature of foodstuffs emerges as a notable concern for companies during long-distance transport. Unlike air freight, products transported via ship, rail and road using containers can take months in transit. Different types of microclimates form within containers used in transportation, determined by the interaction of various factors. The determination of microclimates varies depending on the type of container used, the quality and packaging of the transported goods, packaging materials such as wooden dunnage that can introduce moisture to the environment, and the external ambient air temperature. Moreover, during long-distance transport, weather conditions cause temperature fluctuations inside containers, rising and falling. These temperature variations play a role in the formation of condensation, which can lead to the phenomenon known as "container rain." Container Dri®II cargo desiccants prevent condensation point formation and draw moisture levels to desired levels. The dew point temperature is the temperature value at which condensation begins on surfaces such as container walls and roofs. Container Dri®II products, which definitively remove moisture from the environment, prevent container rain from damaging transported goods. This application is highly effective in preventing mold, corrosion, caking and similar moisture damage on agricultural products, unpackaged foodstuffs, wood products, glass, furniture, automotive parts, leather goods, seeds such as cocoa and coffee, machinery and metal components.

Tailored Solutions for Different Transport Conditions and Product Categories

To optimally meet needs for different transport conditions and product groups, these industry-leading products are available in varying weights from 125 g to 1.5 kg as hanging packets, self-adhesive strips applicable to container walls, and blanket form usable to cover bulk loads. They absorb three times their own weight in moisture and retain this moisture in gel form, contained within the packet without leaking. Non-toxic and easy to dispose of. Saturated air moisture-collecting packets can be disposed of with standard industrial waste. The product is highly effective at all temperature values and humidity ranges.

Container Dri®II's Contribution to Regional Economy

Turkey's export value reached USD 144 billion in 2015. The total export target for 2023, which marks the 100th founding anniversary of the Turkish Republic, is stated as USD 500 billion. According to the Prime Ministry Investment Support and Promotion Agency (ISPAT), sea freight transportation will comprise 10 percent of total cargo transported, and container and TEU (20-foot container) transportation is expected to grow by 15 percent in 2023.
