Clariant Completes REACH Registrations
Clariant announced that it has completed the third phase of the European Union's REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) regulations.
The regulation was implemented by the EU to better protect human health and the environment, improve information communication regarding the handling of chemical products, and preserve and strengthen the competitiveness of the European Union chemical sector.
Clariant registered all chemical substances it produces or imports in quantities exceeding one tonne per year with the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) under REACH phase 3. Approximately 1,000 dossiers were submitted for this process.
Following May 2018, the scope of REACH implementation activities shifted away from registration towards dossier updates, evaluation, authorisation and restriction matters. In this context, work on supply chain communication began, for example the extended Safety Data Sheet (eSDS).
Joachim F. Krüger, Senior Vice President responsible for Corporate Sustainability and Regulatory Affairs at Clariant, commented on the matter as follows: "Due to the breadth of our product portfolio, Clariant is among the companies with the most registration applications.
Thanks to close cooperation between our Product Stewardship areas, our other service functions and all our Business Units, we were able to complete REACH phase 3 on schedule.
Additionally, an internal project called REACH 2018+ was launched within Clariant to ensure that all relevant functions comply with future REACH requirements."
