Çimsa Launches Ireland's Largest Rooftop Solar Power Plant Investment

Çimsa, a Sabancı Holding affiliate, is expanding its renewable energy investments abroad. The company has begun work on implementing Ireland's largest rooftop solar power plant (SPP) investment at the Mannok facility, which it added to its portfolio in the final quarter of 2024.

Once the project with approximately 6 MW installed capacity is completed, Çimsa's total solar energy installed capacity across its facilities in Turkey and abroad will exceed 30 MW.

The solar plant to be installed at the Mannok facility, one of the major building materials production centers in the United Kingdom and Ireland, will span approximately 38.8 hectares (equivalent to 5.5 football fields) of roof area. The system, consisting of approximately 10,000 solar panels, will generate around 4.86 million kWh of electricity annually.

Through this production, the aim is to prevent approximately 792 tons of carbon emissions per year. Upon completion, the facility will hold the title of Ireland's largest rooftop solar power plant.

Total solar energy capacity will exceed 30 MW
In the past 3.5 years, Çimsa has significantly increased its renewable energy investments by installing approximately 45,000 solar panels at its Afyon, Buñol and Eskişehir facilities.

Currently having 24.7 MW of solar energy installed capacity at these three facilities, the company will raise its total solar energy capacity above 30 MW with the completion of the Mannok investment.

When the waste heat-to-power (WHR) facilities operating in Mersin and Eskişehir are taken into account, Çimsa's total renewable energy installed capacity will exceed 41 MW. Through these investments, the company aims to prevent approximately 50,000 tons of carbon emissions annually.

Çimsa Board Chairman Umut Zenar made the following comments regarding the investment:

"While progressing in line with our sustainability targets through the renewable energy investments we have implemented to date, we also aim to meet our facilities' energy needs from more diverse and secure sources. In this way, we are strengthening our green transition while supporting our energy supply with our own resources, thereby creating a more sustainable, secure and competitive structure."

Zenar, emphasizing that sustainability is one of the core priorities in Çimsa's transformation journey, continued as follows:

"Our long-term goal is to transform from a cement company into a global building materials company with sustainability at its center. To this end, we are transforming not only our products but also our production technologies to reduce environmental impacts. Our Mannok investment is an important part of this vision."

Pointing out that Mannok is an important production hub in the United Kingdom and Ireland, Zenar noted:
