Cengiz Enerji Sets 5-Year Production Record at Three Dams

Cengiz Enerji, a group company of Cengiz Holding, achieved its highest production performance in five years at its three hydroelectric power plants in Bingöl and Elazığ during the first five months of 2026. Thanks to scientific and technological planning implemented during a period of heavy rainfall, the company managed to utilize all the water for energy production at its dams located on the same river without opening the reservoir gates.

Cengiz Enerji, a group company of Cengiz Holding, achieved the highest production performance in five years at three hydroelectric power stations located in Bingöl and Elazığ during the first five months of 2026. Thanks to scientific and technological planning applied during a period marked by intense rainfall, the company succeeded in utilizing all water for energy production without opening reservoir gates at dams on the same river.

Total production at Aşağı Kaleköy Dam and Hybrid Power Plant, Yukarı Kaleköy Dam and Hydroelectric Power Station, and Beyhan-1 Dam and Hydroelectric Power Station reached 3.4 million MWh in the first five months of the year, a figure more than double the five-year average.

Renewable energy investment share reached 61%
Cengiz Enerji, which has drawn attention for its investments in renewable energy sources over the past 10 years, currently has 5,162 MW of installed capacity throughout Turkey. The 3,171 MW portion of the company's total installed capacity consists of renewable energy sources. Thus, the renewable energy share within the portfolio reached 61%.

To make renewable energy investments more efficient, Cengiz Enerji has also pioneered hybrid power plants, implementing Turkey's first hybrid power station in Bingöl. Aşağı Kaleköy Hybrid Power Plant combines hydroelectric and solar energy on the same site, increasing efficiency in energy production.

"We succeeded in using all water for production"
Cengiz Enerji CEO Ahmet Türkoğlu stated that renewable energy production is directly affected by climatic conditions, and that proper planning plays a critical role in minimizing these impacts.

Türkoğlu made the following assessment:

"In renewable energy production, periods of intense rainfall can create challenges as significant as droughts in terms of production planning. During the intense rainfall experienced in the Bingöl region this year, we effectively utilized our years of field experience using scientific and technological methods. While many dams on the same river had to release excess water in a controlled manner to the river, we succeeded in using all incoming water for energy production at our three power plants. As a result, we achieved 3.4 million MWh of production in the first five months of the year, reaching the highest production level in five years."

Capacity to meet electricity needs of approximately 500,000 households
Türkoğlu, referring to the energy production capacity of Aşağı Kaleköy Hybrid Power Plant, Turkey's first hybrid power station, noted that the plant's hydroelectric production is supported by solar energy investment.

"By adding a solar energy plant consisting of approximately 200,000 panels next to our 500 MW installed capacity hydroelectric power station, we increased our total installed capacity to 580 MW. This capacity corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of approximately 500,000 households," said Türkoğlu, adding that the total installed capacity of the three facilities in Bingöl and Elazığ reached 1,709 MW.

Energy storage takes center stage in renewable energy's future
Emphasizing that energy storage technologies will shape the future of the renewable energy sector, Ahmet Türkoğlu stated that storage investments are of critical importance for ensuring continuity in production.

"Due to the nature of renewable energy sources, seasonal fluctuations can occur in production. For this reason, it is not only important to produce, but also to be able to store the energy produced. Energy storage investments will be decisive in Turkey's energy transition," said Türkoğlu, noting that the company is continuing its investments in this field.

Türkoğlu added that the company is planning approximately 610 MW of new wind and solar energy investments in the medium term, with the 500 MW portion consisting of energy storage projects.
