ÇEİS Celebrates Its 60th Anniversary

Çimento Endüstrisi İşverenleri Sendikası's (ÇEİS) 60th founding anniversary was celebrated at an event, and the awards of the Building Design Competition, organized to encourage the aesthetic and innovative use of cement, found their owners.

The cement industry's established organization, Çimento Endüstrisi İşverenleri Sendikası (ÇEİS), has been contributing to the development of its members' working life for 60 years with the motto “With Solid Steps Towards the Future,” through projects and activities in the fields of law and industrial relations, occupational health and safety, education, research/statistics and professional qualification.

The event held in Ankara for ÇEİS's 60th Founding Anniversary and the ÇEİS Building Design Competition 2023 Award Ceremony was attended by the ÇEİS Board of Directors and the general managers of member factories, along with valuable stakeholders who have contributed labor to the sector, the jury members of the Building Design Competition, and the award-winning competitors. The program, which began on November 14, 2024, with a visit to Anıtkabir, continued with the Building Design Competition 2023 exhibition and award ceremony, and ended with the 60th Anniversary Celebration Dinner.

Making statements for ÇEİS's 60th founding anniversary, ÇEİS Chairman of the Board of Directors Adil Sani Konukoğlu said: “The value and vision our union has brought to the sector also carry great importance for the development of our country. With this awareness, we are taking very valuable steps to carry our 60 years of experience into the future more strongly and to prepare our sector for the future.

Having witnessed 60 years of the cement sector's 110-year history in our country, ÇEİS has been an institution that strives for the development and welfare of the sector, develops projects, and seriously guides the sector. Through the unique education and development opportunities it provides to its members, its efforts to supply certified workforce and attract qualified young people to the sector, the social dialogue bridge it has established in the sector, and the high value-added projects it has developed, it has fulfilled and continues to fulfill the duty it has undertaken,” he said.

A Total of 14 Awards Were Distributed at the Award Ceremony

In 2023, with the theme “Together in Public Space,” aimed at highlighting designs that would provide public benefit, a total of 139 projects applied to the competition in the student and professional categories.

At the evening when the awards found their owners, in the professional category, Kürşad Keçeci, Resul Ekrem Zengin, and Doğukan Cengiz won first place with the ÇARK project, which was the jury's most favored project among 58 projects thanks to its innovative approach. The second place award of the category went to Yadigar Esin Esen's Açık Meclis project, while the third place award of the category was given to Bahadır Asım's SYMBIOSIS project. The DERZ, Kaleydoskop, Kamusal Alanda Akupunktur and Sustainable Dissolve projects were deemed worthy of receiving the Equivalent Honorable Mention awards of the category.

In the student category, the Harmoni project by Sude Turan, Kayra Suner and Tugay Tuncay Can was deemed worthy of the first place award. The second place award went to Khusniddin Khakimov, Berkay Aksu and Abyan Muhammad Fikri's (Con)Create project. The third place award of the category went to the Midsommar project by Muhammed Esad Gündoğdu, Berrenur Yalçın and Senay Özsaydı. Meanwhile, the AlgCrete, Esnek Beton, Orantes and Pulse projects received the Equivalent Honorable Mention awards. 

Making statements regarding the competition process at the award ceremony, ÇEİS Chairman of the Board of Directors Adil Sani Konukoğlu said: “Cement and concrete can evolve into very aesthetic, innovative and extraordinary forms in skillful hands. In this way, it can seriously facilitate our lives. As ÇEİS, with the competition for which we have completed our third term, we aim to discover together with the competitors the environmentally friendly, strong and innovative designs that will shape the future. In this context, I once again sincerely congratulate, in your presence, the owners of the projects deemed worthy of awards in our 2023 competition, and I wish them continued success. I also thank our Jury Members for their valuable contributions throughout the competition,” he said.
