Bursa Contributes USD 4 Billion to Exports

Bursa Contributed USD 4 Billion to Turkey's Exports Bursa, where significant production takes place particularly in the automotive and textile sectors, contributed USD 3,989,231,000 to Turkey's exports in the first quarter. According to data compiled from Turkey Exporters Assembly, exports from Bursa during January-March were directed to approximately 180 countries, free zones and autonomous regions, with the city's foreign sales showing a 3.8% increase compared to the same period last year. The highest exports from Bursa were directed to Germany, one of Turkey's most important markets. Exports to this country in the first quarter of the year increased by 5.5% from USD 608,994,000 to USD 642,201,000. Foreign sales to France in second place rose by 104.7% from USD 233,707,000 to USD 478,418,000. Exports to Spain, which recorded USD 297,569,000 in the first quarter of last year, reached USD 304,044,000 in the same period this year with a 2.2% increase. Exports to Germany, France and Spain totaling USD 1,424,663,000 accounted for 35.7% of the city's total foreign sales.

Automotive sector records USD 1.7 billion in exports

In Bursa, where major companies such as OYAK Renault, TOFAŞ, Bosch and Karsan operate, the automotive industry's exports during January-March amounted to USD 1,728,398,000. The city's automotive exports increased by 19.8%, compared to USD 1,442,818,000 in foreign sales during the same period last year. The ready-made clothing and apparel sector, which ranks second in the city's exports, saw its foreign sales in the first quarter decline by 8.7% from USD 471,177,000 to USD 430,239,000. The machinery and components sector, ranked third on the list, experienced a 15.3% increase in first-quarter exports compared to the same period last year. Steel sector foreign sales, which stood at USD 300,666,000 in January-March last year, reached USD 346,745,000 in the same period this year. The textile and raw materials sector contributed USD 333,913,000 to Bursa's first-quarter exports, the steel sector USD 211,797,000, furniture, paper and forest products USD 204,980,000, chemicals and chemical products USD 174,963,000, iron and non-ferrous metals sector USD 164,157,000, and the air-conditioning industry sector USD 124,287,000. Total exports from the city's remaining 17 sectors, including cement, leather and leather products, other industrial products, electrical and electronics, ships and yachts and services, carpets, fresh fruits and vegetables, amounted to USD 269,747,000.   Source
