Boltaş strengthens its intermodal transport operations

Boltas increases its sector effectiveness through intermodal transport operations between Turkey and Europe with each passing day. One of the first companies to provide intermodal services in Turkey, Boltas contributes to the development of intermodal transport through its weekly regular rail freight services between Turkey and European countries. Merih Ünal, Intermodal Manager at Boltas, whose effectiveness in the sector is growing daily through intermodal transport operations, stated: "Through intermodal transport, we offer our customers safe and environmentally friendly solutions in line with ideal timelines and costs." Merih Ünal, the company's Intermodal Manager, noted that intermodal transport could help Turkey achieve an important position in international competition. Ünal stated that the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, supported by the EU, is implementing the "Strengthening Intermodal Transport Services in the Turkish Railway Sector Project" together with sector stakeholders, and that the ultimate aim is to prepare an Intermodal Transport Action Plan. Emphasizing that 18 percent of freight transport in EU countries is carried out by rail, Ünal stated: "In our country, this ratio is less than 5 percent. Trade with EU countries is directly affected by sustainability policies. Under these conditions, intermodal transport will gain significant momentum in our country through the right investment moves. For this reason, we find the Ministry's efforts valuable. As Boltas, we are currently providing services with regular train trips on the Turkey-Europe line. The completion of the Halkalı-Kapıkule Railway Line Project being carried out with the EU will further increase efficiency."

Investments and new partnerships on the Southern Germany route

Noting that they made investments and new partnerships on the Southern Germany route as of this year, Ünal said: "We manage our transports through Romania's Curtici terminal connected to our Tekirdağ terminal on the Central Germany and Benelux route through our contracted operator partners." Stating that they also make intensive use of Ro-Ro routes between Turkey and Europe, Ünal continued: "We can deliver shipments that we transport via Ro-Ro from Pendik and Yalova terminals to Italy's Port of Trieste and France's Port of Sete to European countries by rail. With our Ro-Ro + rail, Ro-Ro + rail + road, Ro-Ro + road and block train solutions, we are working on new intermodal routes."

"We reduce carbon emissions by 80 tons"

Ünal emphasized that intermodal transport played an important role in Boltas receiving the Green Logistics Certificate, stating: "On our Germany route, we reduce carbon emissions by 80 tons per round trip compared to road transport. We can provide cost advantages of around 15-20 percent. Through intermodal transport, we use resources efficiently to keep our customers one step ahead and offer safe and environmentally friendly solutions in line with ideal timelines and costs. With this transport mode, we also overcome the problem of truck drivers obtaining EU visas. All of this increases the global competitiveness of both our customers and our country."
