Şener recommends adhering to legal speed limits, maintaining a 4-6 second distance from the vehicle ahead, and being cautious of pedestrian traffic when passing through populated areas to prevent accidents. Vehicle servicing must be performed
Occupational Health and Safety Specialist Lecturer Özgür Şener, noting that holiday breaks are periods when traffic accident potential increases due to rising highway congestion, stated: "Before setting out, the vehicle must undergo servicing to ensure it does not break down on the road. One must ensure that the tire sidewalls have no cuts, cracks, or missing pieces. At a reliable tire shop, verify that tread depths are at a minimum of 3 mm and tire pressures are at the specified values for the vehicle."If there are health issues, consult a doctor first
Occupational Health and Safety Specialist Lecturer Özgür Şener, noting that one must be mentally prepared for driving and not be sleep-deprived, explained: "If there is any discomfort, do not drive without consulting a doctor. Before starting to drive, check road and weather conditions, identify rest stops on the intended route and, if necessary, determine alternative routes before departing. It is helpful to ensure that the vehicle's fuel tank is adequately filled before beginning the drive."Speed limits must be observed
Şener continued, addressing traffic rules as follows: "When approaching critical areas such as junctions, entry and merge points, traffic lights, slow down and proceed in a controlled manner. Especially when passing through populated areas, be very cautious of the possibility of pedestrians and children crossing. Comply with legal speed limits. Driving below speed limits when challenging conditions such as rain, darkness, narrow or winding roads occur will prevent accidents. Maintain a safe following distance. Keep a minimum of 4 seconds from the vehicle ahead, and 6 seconds on highways and expressways. Observing the road ahead and checking mirrors and surroundings every 5-8 seconds will also ensure safe driving."Changing dietary habits can create danger!
Şener, drawing attention to the fact that drivers may also face psychological challenges during the journey, concluded as follows: "Due to heavy traffic and extended waiting times, drivers may become aggressive. For this reason, it is beneficial to remain calm on the road. Drivers accustomed to fasting should be prepared for drowsiness-like reactions resulting from changed eating patterns after Ramadan Feast."Advertisement
