Volunteer teachers who received science literacy training came together with their colleagues in Şanlıurfa to introduce more children to science through the "Bayer Genç Bilim Elçileri" project.

"Bayer Young Science Ambassadors" project brought together volunteer teachers who received science literacy training to meet more children with science in Şanlıurfa. The volunteer teachers, now 'Science Ambassadors' through their training, will implement the project content in the schools where they teach.

The project aims to reach 150 teachers through training provided in 2017.

20 March 2017, Istanbul – The "Bayer Young Science Ambassadors" project, implemented by Bayer Turkey and the Community Volunteers Foundation, held the first of its "Science Literacy Teacher Training" program in Şanlıurfa in its sixth year, expanding its scope with volunteer teachers. Twenty-eight teachers from neighbouring provinces participated in the training conducted by Science Ambassador teachers working in Şanlıurfa who had volunteered in the Bayer Young Science Ambassadors project during their university education. Within the scope of the training, volunteer teachers participated in interactive group work on teamwork, body language, and communication techniques, and will begin transferring their knowledge about the project to their colleagues and implementing the project content in their classrooms. The Bayer Young Science Ambassadors Project, which has reached approximately 23,000 children over the past five years, aims in 2017 to meet 5,000 primary school-age children and encourage them towards becoming scientists in the future. This year the project is being implemented in primary schools determined by Provincial and District National Education Directorates in Hatay, Bitlis, Aydın, Adıyaman, Konya, Artvin, Kastamonu and Istanbul.

About the Bayer Young Science Ambassadors Project

The "Bayer Young Science Ambassadors" project, implemented by Bayer Turkey together with the Community Volunteers Foundation, aims to contribute to the development of science in Turkey by encouraging primary school-age children towards becoming scientists in the future. The Bayer Young Science Ambassadors Project, implemented with careful attention to detail, has two phases. First, Science Ambassadors, composed of volunteer university students, participate in training designed with non-formal education modules under the heading of "Science Literacy". Then, in order to spark primary school-age children's interest in science and help them love science, a series of activities are implemented in primary schools. Activity programmes are carried out in schools taking into account weekly class hours. The activities include seven engaging experiments that capture children's interest and align with Bayer's global business strategies; these experiments raise awareness of mega trends affecting the world's future such as growing and ageing world population, increasing energy demand, increasing food and feed requirements, rising quality of life and declining resources. The "Science Seeds Team", which is the mobile unit of the Bayer Young Science Ambassadors project, was launched in 2014 as an extension specially developed for Bayer's 60th anniversary in Turkey. The Science Seeds Team travels village to village with a mobile education vehicle and meets children in rural settlements. To date, the team has covered approximately 67,000 km and met children at 196 locations.
