BASF Introduces Innovations for Climate-Friendly Chemical Production

Climate protection is firmly embedded in BASF's new corporate strategy. One of the main objectives of this strategy is to achieve carbon-neutral growth by 2030. BASF is presenting the latest research findings on new processes and innovative, climate-friendly products at a Research Press Conference held in Ludwigshafen. Climate protection is firmly anchored in BASF's new corporate strategy. One of the main objectives of this strategy is to achieve carbon-neutral growth by 2030. To accomplish this, BASF continuously optimizes its existing processes, gradually replaces fossil fuels with renewable energy sources, and develops entirely new, low-emission production processes. The company is consolidating all of these efforts in an ambitious Carbon Management program. Dr. Martin Brudermüller, Chairman of the Executive Board of BASF SE and Head of Technology, stated: "Achieving our climate protection targets will require large-scale reductions in CO₂ emissions. As a raw material, CO₂ is suitable only for certain applications, and therefore these uses will not make a significant contribution to slowing climate change." The company had significantly reduced CO₂ emissions in recent years by optimizing production processes and improving efficiency. Since 1990, BASF has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 50% while doubling its production volume during the same period. Brudermüller stated: "Reducing CO₂ emissions further will require developing entirely new technologies. For this reason, BASF has launched an ambitious research and development program."
