BASF Launches Sustainable Education Initiative for Turkey

BASF's Sustainable Brands Conference 2016, for which BASF has been a Platinum Sponsor for four years, took place in Istanbul at SwissOtel The Bosphorus. BASF Turkey CEO Buğra Kavuncu delivered the opening address of the conference, which featured more than 50 speakers from domestic and international backgrounds. At the conference, Kavuncu gave a presentation explaining BASF's "Chemistry Laboratories in 81 Provinces" project, implemented under the sustainability heading of "contribution to society." He stated: "As the world's leading chemical company, at the heart of our corporate strategy lies our mission: 'We create chemistry for a sustainable future.' This mission directs us to consider the responsibility to future generations in all activities we undertake. We listen to the voices of different stakeholder groups; wherever there is a need, we try to be there. In 2010, when we identified that some work could be done on laboratories in high schools across Turkey, we launched our '81 Chemistry Laboratories in 81 Provinces' project. As a country, we gave a standing ovation when our mentor Aziz Sancar received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. This country's children truly have major contributions to make to world civilization. These social responsibility projects I have mentioned are among my and my colleagues' greatest sources of motivation personally. Indirectly contributing to the creative and open thinking of our country's future generations, supporting activities that will bring light to our nation—as the entire BASF family, this makes us very happy."
