BASF Expands in China's Jiangmen Region

BASF to Double Automotive Coatings Production Capacity in Jiangmen Region, China

BASF will continue to invest in its coatings operations in Jiangmen, Guangdong Province in southern China, by constructing a new facility for automotive coatings that will begin production in the first half of 2022. Zheng Daqing, Vice President of Greater China Business and Market Development at BASF, said: "Guangdong Province holds strategic importance for BASF in Greater China. The investment in Jiangmen will double the facility's production capacity. The new facility, located in the rapidly growing Pearl River Delta region, will further support the automotive industry and bring us even closer to our customers." BASF Coatings (Guangdong) Co., Ltd., which was acquired from a local family business in 2016, is the company's first automotive coatings production facility in Asia. Over the past three years, this site has developed into a world-class production facility supported by continuous investments in environment, health and safety, product quality, research and development, and personnel. Patrick Zhao, Senior Vice President of BASF Coatings Solutions Asia Pacific, said: "We upgraded our production and environmental protection facilities to meet BASF's world-class standards. BASF's environmental credentials and contributions were recognized by Jiangmen's local Environmental Protection Bureau, with the company selected as a "Green Brand" in October 2018. BASF was the only chemical company to achieve this status that year. Following the acquisition, BASF established a technology centre in Jiangmen focused on color technology and the development of sustainable high-performance products for the refinery and commercial transportation segments in Asia Pacific. Zhao said: "We now have the capacity to serve the growing local and regional value-for-money market with strong product and solution offerings." For example, NORBIN® 66, a new water-based technology, has helped customers in the value-for-money refinish segment achieve higher performance and greater environmental friendliness. The production facility offers a comprehensive portfolio of automotive paints and solutions for commercial vehicles. Additionally, all these brands provide a complete refinish coatings solutions system, including base coats, topcoats, putties, primers, fillers, toners, varnishes, hardeners, thinners, accelerated drying additives and mixers.
