Balparmak Achieves Global Success in Authentic Honey Detection

Türkiye-based Balparmak continues to attract international attention with the scientific method it has developed for detecting natural honey. The pre-screening system, developed by the company's R&D Center based on more than 30,000 honey samples, was presented to the scientific community at the International Symposium on Bee Products and received considerable acclaim.

Turkey-based Balparmak continues to attract international attention with its scientific method developed for detecting natural honey. A pre-screening system developed by the company's R&D Center based on more than 30,000 honey samples was presented to the scientific community at the International Bee Products Symposium, where it received considerable acclaim.

The method presented at the symposium held in Croatia and attended by the International Honey Commission and scientists from different countries emerged as a new approach in combating counterfeit and adulterated honey. Developed in response to the growing global problem of fake honey, this system draws attention for offering rapid and reliable analysis capabilities.

Reliable Results in 25 Minutes
The methodology developed by Balparmak is based on statistical analysis of multidimensional data such as physicochemical properties, microscopic structure, and carbohydrate profile of honey. Supported by high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) technology, the system can detect counterfeiting and adulteration in honey in approximately 25 minutes. This approach carries the potential to accelerate laboratory processes while saving costs and time.

Balparmak General Manager Ulaş Altıparmak stated that the company's investments in scientific infrastructure have yielded results on international platforms, expressing that the developed methods are of a caliber that can be referenced on a global scale.

Scientific Collaboration and Award Success
An international project conducted within the symposium was also recognized with an award. The study, which included Balparmak R&D Center and contributions from 34 scientists from 12 countries, won the "Best Scientific Poster Presentation" award. Tuğçe Daştan, a participant in the project, stood out with her contributions toward determining pollen sources of honey samples from Turkey.

Balparmak R&D and Quality Director Dr. Emel Damarlı emphasized that sharing the developed methodology with the global scientific community represents an important step for the sector.

Data-Driven Approach Sets New Standards for the Sector
The proliferation of counterfeit and adulterated products alongside growing global honey trade ranks among the sector's most pressing problems. According to experts, honey authenticity cannot be reliably determined through sensory methods such as taste, aroma, or color. For this reason, data-based analysis methods play a critical role.

Operating since 1980, Balparmak pursues its goal of becoming a reference institution in bee products not only in Turkey but also on a global scale through its strong R&D infrastructure and international collaborations. The advanced analysis methods developed by the company contribute to raising quality and food safety standards in other bee products as well as honey.
