Visit to European Environment Agency

Ministry of Environment, Urbanism and Climate Change Visits European Environment Agency A delegation established under the CityAir Technical Support Project for Improving Air Quality in Turkish Cities and Raising Public Awareness conducted a series of working visits in Denmark. Within the scope of working visits conducted by Ministry of Environment, Urbanism and Climate Change participants in Denmark: An exchange of views took place while evaluating the EU Green Deal, Zero Pollution Action Plan and EU sustainability agenda and matters relating to air pollution (Air Quality in Europe 2021 Report, public awareness on air quality, action to improve air quality in cities). Ministry representatives met with representatives of the European Environment Agency during the conducted visits. Within the scope of the CityAir Project for Improving Air Quality in Cities and Raising Public Awareness, financed by the European Union and the Republic of Turkey and implemented by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanism and Climate Change, a series of visits and training sessions were conducted in Denmark. Ministry of Environment, Urbanism and Climate Change representatives participated in working visits and training sessions conducted with the aim of sharing information on improving air quality in the medium and long term and how technical and scientific perspectives meet with implementation in air quality protection. As part of the Denmark working visits, a series of concurrent training sessions were held at Aarhus University. Within the scope of university training, Senior Researcher Lise M. Frohn, Senior Researcher Matthias Ketzel, Senior Researcher Anne-Sofie Lansø and Senior Researcher Ulaş İm conducted informative training on city-scale modelling (UBM Model), atmospheric dispersion modelling (OML Model) and health impact assessment (EVA Model System). Following the training conducted at Aarhus University, the European Environment Agency was visited. At this meeting where detailed presentations and briefings were made, the EU Green Deal, Zero Pollution Action Plan and EU sustainability agenda and matters relating to air pollution (Air Quality in Europe 2021 Report, public awareness on air quality, action to improve air quality in cities) were discussed. An information meeting was conducted with representatives of Danish waste management company ARC. Clean Air Target with CityAir Project İrde Çetintürk Gürtepe, Head of Air Management Department at the Ministry of Environment, Urbanism and Climate Change, providing information about the work conducted in Denmark within the scope of the CityAir Project, stated regarding the visit: "In the CityAir project financed by the European Union and the Republic of Turkey, we are benefiting from national and international sources with the goal of improving air quality in cities and creating public awareness. The work we conducted in Denmark is a result of this." Gürtepe noted that the CityAir project is being carried out with four components: emission inventory, modelling studies, reduction measures and public awareness; and stated that modelling studies will continue with the support of foreign participants who are experts in their fields, clean air action plans will be updated and action plans supported by technical data will be put into effect. Gürtepe noted that when the project is completed, clean air action plans for 31 provinces will be updated with the technical data obtained.
