AstraZeneca Continuing Support to Earthquake-Affected Regions AstraZeneca Turkey, not forgetting the earthquake disaster that occurred in February, is continuing its long-term support to the region through various associations and foundations, in addition to its relief efforts during the earthquake period. As the population of the region directly affected by the February earthquakes, and indeed all of Turkey, continue to rebuild, AstraZeneca Turkey is maintaining the relief support it launched from the first moment of the earthquake. During the period of the disaster, AstraZeneca made a financial contribution of USD 1 million to support relief efforts and also launched a donation campaign involving all AstraZeneca employees worldwide. The company provided approximately TRY 2 million worth of pharmaceutical aid to earthquake-affected regions to meet requests for medicines and medical assistance sent through the Research-Based Pharmaceutical Companies Association (AİFD) of Turkey's Medicines and Medical Devices Agency. Beyond these supports, AstraZeneca Turkey continues to provide support for the education of children and youth in the region. Launching the AstraZeneca Hope in Education Fund to contribute to the education, development and advancement of university students affected by the earthquakes, the company covers the four-year education expenses of university students designated by the foundation through this fund established within the Turkish Education Foundation (TEV). Scholarships cover students in 11 provinces affected by the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquake disaster whose schools or families are located there.   Expanding its education support further, AstraZeneca Turkey made an additional contribution to the existing AstraZeneca Hope in Education Fund on behalf of the children of AstraZeneca Turkey employees on the occasion of 23 April National Sovereignty and Children's Day this year, and undertook the education and training expenses throughout the primary and secondary education of children identified as in need by TEV in the earthquake region. The company made a donation to the Mother and Child Education Foundation (AÇEV) on the occasion of Mother's Day, supporting the Foundation's work in the region for children, parents and women affected by the earthquakes. At the same time, the company made a donation for the education of 20 girls in earthquake-affected areas under the Koruncuk Foundation's "Life Support in Koruncuk Villages" project.
AstraZeneca Turkey Country President Ecz. Serkan Barış made the following statement on the matter:
"I wish to reiterate that as the AstraZeneca Turkey family, we deeply share the pain of all our people in the face of this disaster that caused great suffering. As part of the process, we are making efforts to provide support within our means. Being aware of how challenging and long-term this process is, we are taking care to ensure the continuity of our assistance. In our support efforts, we aim to keep the destructive impact of the earthquake away from our youth and our country's future. In our long-term assistance plans, we have prioritized providing support for the education of children and youth in the region. Our work continues regarding which needs we can address in the region as AstraZeneca. We are always ready to fulfill our role in any work, project and collaboration that will benefit society."
