Rising Investments Drive Record Wind Power Generation

Wind power generation set a daily record on 3 January with 259,076 MWh. One quarter of electricity generated during the first week of January came from wind.

Reviewing the data, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar stated: "With our growing renewable installed capacity each passing day, we are setting new records. We started 2026 with a record. Wind power generation reached its highest daily production figure at 259,076 MWh on 3 January." TÜREB (Turkey Wind Energy Association) Chair Dr. İbrahim Erden noted that electricity generation from wind power plants breaks new records each year alongside increases in installed capacity, and that its share in total electricity generation is rising. He stated that they view 2025 as a preparation year for licensing procedures and investments, and 2026 as the year for bringing wind power plants online, commissioning first storage facilities, and seeing concrete results in industry.

WIND ENERGY INSTALLED CAPACITY AND GENERATION GROWTH TO ACCELERATE
Electricity generation from wind power set a daily production record during the first week of January. Rising wind generation resulted in wind energy's share in total electricity generation exceeding 20 percent during the first week of January alongside the effect of increasing output.

Turkey Wind Energy Association (TÜREB) Board Chair Dr. İbrahim Erden, commenting on the wind power plants' production record during the first week of January, emphasized that recent geopolitical developments and global supply chain disruptions have made renewable energy a strategic priority for Turkey not only in terms of climate targets but also for energy supply security and energy independence.

Erden underlined that electricity generation from wind power plants breaks new records each year alongside increases in installed capacity and that its share in total electricity generation is rising, stating: "2025 was a preparation year for licensing procedures and investments; we foresee 2026 as the year for bringing wind power plants online, commissioning first storage facilities, and seeing concrete results in industry. Turkey's electrical wind installed capacity has reached 14,700 MW, and mechanical installed capacity has exceeded 15,000 MW; approximately 2,000 MW of installation was completed in the past year, representing one of the strongest performances of the last 15 years. As a result of record-breaking investments in this context, our country's electricity generation from wind energy will continue to set new records on a daily, weekly, and annual basis."
