Ersin Altınel, General Manager of Altınel Nakliyat, discusses the important services that Altınel Nakliyat has provided to the sector for 34 years, the significance of transportation and logistics services for Turkey, and the measures that must be taken when carrying hazardous materials in our feature titled "Industry Perspectives." Could you describe the developments Altınel Nakliyat has experienced since its founding to the present day?

Altınel Nakliyat has been engaged in chemical bulk transportation for 34 years. During this time, we have always been a company that our customers could trust. We started chemical transportation in 1984 and began providing services in this sector as Altınel Nakliyat in 1995. We initially started by providing transportation services to the chemicals division of Aygaz. As the chemical sector grew over the years and conditions changed, we relocated our garage to Dilovası to provide faster services to our customers. As the sector grew rapidly over time, we became part of this process and expanded our fleet in a modern manner.

What services do you provide to your customers?

Altınel Nakliyat provides road transportation of liquid bulk chemical materials. While we conduct our transportation operations safely throughout the country, we have recently started international transportation. We aim to start with Balkan countries and eventually expand to other regions. With ADR-compliant tractors and tankers with capacities of 25,000 liters and 38,000 liters in our fleet, we provide transportation according to our customers' needs. Our vehicles are always equipped with satellite tracking systems that enable continuous monitoring, ensuring that materials reach our customers safely.

What is the importance of transportation and logistics services for Turkey?

In an increasingly globalized world, transportation and logistics services hold a very important place. Consequently, the boundaries in the movement of goods have been removed. Today, the size of companies is measured by how quickly they can deliver their products to customers. From this perspective, logistics and transportation have become a very important sector. The growth of the logistics and transportation sector progresses in parallel with the country's economy. In this context, Turkey has experienced significant developments in recent years. Due to its geographic location, our country has the potential to become a logistics hub. If we can leverage this potential, we can achieve significant progress. Since its establishment, Altınel Nakliyat has committed to providing quality service to its customers. For this reason, our company obtained ISO 9001 certification to ensure that our services continue in accordance with international standards.

Hazardous materials transportation must undoubtedly be carried out with extensive safety measures for human and environmental health. As Altınel Nakliyat, what precautions do you take when transporting chemical materials?

While human and environmental health is important for everyone, we at Altınel Nakliyat are extremely sensitive to these matters. We conduct our transportation with environmentally friendly vehicles compliant with Euro4, Euro5 and Euro6 standards and ADR regulations. All our drivers have received the training and certifications required for hazardous materials transportation. Additionally, with our ISO 14001 certification, we meet the requirements of environmental management systems and conduct our operations accordingly. Reducing our carbon footprint requires emission and waste minimization. As a transportation company, we aim to reduce the emissions of our vehicles. We achieve this through the low-emission new vehicles we continuously add to our fleet.

What documents and licenses are required to conduct hazardous materials transportation? Have there been any recent legal regulations regarding these documents and licenses?

To conduct hazardous materials transportation, it is first necessary to obtain authorization certificates including K1, K2, C1, C2, L1, L2, R1, R2 and to obtain a Hazardous Materials Activity License. Companies must also have Hazardous Materials Transportation Insurance. The implementation of ADR regulations for the transportation of hazardous materials in 2014 was an important step for our country. The objective is to ensure that hazardous materials are transported safely and in an orderly manner via publicly accessible roads without causing harm to human health, other living creatures, or the environment.

Could you tell us about your quality policy? How important do you believe quality is in achieving large-scale growth?

Since its establishment, Altınel Nakliyat has committed to providing quality service to its customers. For this reason, our company obtained ISO 9001 certification to ensure that our services continue in accordance with international standards. Additionally, with our ISO 10002 certification, we have implemented a management system that helps us identify areas where we can eliminate causes of complaints and enables more of our customers to be satisfied with the services we provide. Our ISO 14001 certification demonstrates how important environmental management is to us. Furthermore, with our OHSAS 18001 certification, we establish a certain standard for occupational health and safety. We aim for large-scale growth and will continue without compromising on quality.

What investments are you planning to implement in the coming years?

We aim to build a modern facility on our land in Dilovası OSB that we will use for logistics and storage purposes. In this context, we are working to create a facility that is sensitive to the environment. Within the scope of the projects we are pursuing, we continue to make investments in ADR-compliant vehicles and equipment. The training we provide to our drivers and our work regarding the road transportation of hazardous materials increases every day.

What would you like to say about the sector? What are your views on domestic and international logistics services?

While the growth and expansion of the sector is important for us, it holds an even greater significance for our country. Expanding the transportation networks we create domestically and internationally will elevate our country to a more important position in the sector and in the world.
