Aksa Enerji's First Solar Power Plant with Storage Begins Commercial Production

Aksa Enerji's Gaziantep Cotton Storage Solar Power Plant (SPP), developed as part of investments contributing to Turkey's energy transition, commenced commercial operation following completion of required approval processes.

The project, which has an installed capacity of 40.5 MWe, mechanical capacity of 58 MWp and energy storage capacity of 48,169 MWh, represents Aksa Enerji's first investment in the field of renewable energy with storage. Ranked among the region's largest solar power plants with storage, the facility will also make significant contributions to the widespread adoption of energy storage technologies.

By storing electricity generated from the sun and feeding it into the grid as needed, the facility stands out as a successful example of next-generation energy investments that ensure production continuity, grid stability and system flexibility. While supporting more effective integration of renewable energy sources into the electrical grid, the project aims to strengthen energy supply security and contribute to Turkey's 2053 Net Zero Emissions target.

Cotton Storage SPP also positions itself as one of the important milestones in Aksa Enerji's growth strategy in the renewable energy field.

Developed with high domestic content ratio
The project, which prioritizes the use of domestic equipment and technologies, aims to contribute to the development of Turkey's energy storage ecosystem. Within the scope of the investment supporting domestic industry and engineering capacity; domestic inverters, domestic cellular solar panels, domestic software-based Energy Management System (EMS), SPP monitoring system, domestic transformers, switchgear equipment, cables and construction solutions were used.

This approach not only increases renewable energy production but also contributes to strengthening domestic manufacturing and technology development capacity in the field of energy technologies.

Commenting on the matter, Aksa Enerji Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Executive Board Naci Ağbal stated:

The Cotton Storage SPP that we brought online today constitutes the first step of our storage-based renewable energy portfolio with a total installed capacity of 941 MW that we are developing in different regions of Turkey. Through these investments, we aim to contribute to more efficient use of renewable energy sources, strengthening energy supply security and increasing grid flexibility.
