Akfen Brings European Ranking to Turkey in Hydrogen Vehicle Competition

The Hidroana team, made up of Eskişehir Technical University students supported by Akfen Yenilenebilir Enerji and developing a hydrogen-powered vehicle, finished 9th in Europe in the "Prototype Hydrogen" category at Shell Eco-marathon Europe 2025, which it entered under Akfen Yenilenebilir Enerji's sponsorship.
Hidroana, a hydrogen-powered vehicle team of students from Eskişehir Technical University supported by Akfen Yenilenebilir Enerji, finished 9th in Europe in the 'Prototype Hydrogen' category at Shell Eco-marathon Europe 2025, which they attended as Akfen Yenilenebilir Enerji sponsors.
Continuing its support for young talent developing sustainable transport technologies, Akfen Yenilenebilir Enerji sponsors "Hidroana," Eskişehir Technical University's hydrogen-powered vehicle project established in 2007 and operational for 18 years, thereby contributing to the development of Turkey's leading teams in the field of alternative-energy vehicles.
Focused on hydrogen technologies and prioritizing hydrogen energy in recent activities, Akfen Yenilenebilir Enerji contributes to the development of sustainable transport through the EU-supported HYDROMOD Project and support for the Hidroana team.
Shell Eco-marathon Europe, held for the 40th time this year at the Kamien Slaski circuit in Poland, is one of Europe's most prestigious alternative-energy vehicle competitions, bringing together teams from across the continent. The competition featured two different vehicle types – Urban and Prototype – with three separate categories beneath them: hydrogen, battery-electric and internal combustion. The Hidroana team competed in the Prototype Hydrogen category and finished 9th in Europe, achieving the distinction of being the only Turkish team to rank in this category. This result, obtained with three teams from Turkey participating in the competition, was a significant source of pride for both the university and the country.
Composed entirely of volunteer engineering students, the Hidroana team brings together students from Materials Science and Engineering, Electrical-Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering departments, creating an interdisciplinary working environment. The team has successfully represented Turkey in national and international competitions with the hydrogen-powered vehicles it has developed to date.
