Akcoat Showcases Future Enamel and Coating Technologies in Paris

Akcoat shared enamel systems compliant with the European Union's new Drinking Water Directive and environmentally friendly coating technologies with international sector representatives.

Akcoat, one of the world's leading advanced chemical coating materials manufacturers, presented its innovative R&D work in drinking water safety and sustainability at the 26th International Enamel Manufacturers Congress held in Paris. Presentations on enamel systems compliant with the European Union's new Drinking Water Directive and environmentally friendly coating technologies were among the congress's highlighted topics.

With approximately half a century of experience, Akcoat manufactures across five main product groups: ceramics, enamel, non-stick decorative coatings, pigments and glass. The company participated in the congress with a broad delegation including Board Member Buğra Çiçek, R&D Director Selçuk Bulut Yazan, Performance Coatings Sales Director Ahmet Madenli, Quality and Sustainability Manager Ayşe Tunalı, and specialists from enamel sales and R&D teams.

At the congress, which brought together manufacturers, suppliers, researchers and sector representatives from different countries worldwide, Akcoat shared two important R&D projects developed in line with the European Union's 2050 environmental and sustainability goals. Work titled "Development of Enamel Coatings Compliant with the Drinking Water Directive" and "Development of Antifouling Glass-Ceramic Coatings" drew intense interest from participants.

Next-Generation Enamel Systems for Drinking Water Safety
In a presentation delivered by Akcoat R&D Director Selçuk Bulut Yazan, current regulations issued under the Drinking Water Directive conducted by the European Union in cooperation with ECHA and EEA, and the impacts of these regulations on the sector were discussed.

Akcoat's next-generation enamel coating systems developed in compliance with the Drinking Water Directive (DWD) were shared with participants along with test results obtained in accredited laboratories. The presentation conveyed solutions developed for safety, quality and regulatory compliance criteria in products in contact with drinking water, while also evaluating upcoming regulations expected to take effect and the steps the sector needs to take to prepare for these changes.

Environmentally Friendly Coating Technologies Take Center Stage
In the second presentation held at the congress, Akcoat Enamel R&D Specialist Sinan Daloğlu introduced the company's "Inorganic and Environmentally Friendly Antifouling Glass-Ceramic Coating System."

Developed in line with the European Union's goals for protecting water resources, environmental sustainability and improving human health, the work presents an innovative technology that can prevent organisms from adhering to surfaces through super-wettability properties achieved via surface modification.

This approach provides an alternative to biocide-based non-stick coatings currently in widespread use that carry various risks to the environment and human health, while offering an environmentally friendly, inorganic and long-lasting solution. The work, which attracted attention for its innovative approach to sustainable coating technologies, drew intense interest from congress participants.
