Akçansa Becomes First Turkish Company to Sign CEO Water Mandate

Akçansa, taking an important step in combating drought, which has destructive effects of climate change, became the first Turkish cement company to sign the 'CEO Water Mandate' initiative from the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC).

Operating under the principle of effective water management, Akçansa set a sectoral precedent by signing the 'CEO Water Mandate', which undertakes international initiatives on water efficiency and drought prevention.

Companies joining the CEO Water Mandate initiative contribute to a more secure water future by reporting their water management strategies and performance. This initiative, which also offers opportunities for experience sharing, supports identifying and reducing water risks, monitoring current water-related issues, and contributing to water security and sustainable development goals.

Akçansa General Manager Vecih Yılmaz emphasized the great importance they place on effective water management for a more sustainable future, expressing satisfaction at being among the signatories of such a valuable initiative. Yılmaz stated: "We understand the importance of water for our planet and our future; we continue our activities to ensure efficient use of water resources and increase recovery rates from a circular economy perspective. In 2023, we reused 92 percent of the water consumed in our cement production activities through closed-loop systems. We prepared Water Management Master Plans covering rainwater and surface water collection. Water management, which is one of the important headings of our climate change adaptation plans, is also at the center of our sustainability strategy. With our voluntary commitment to sustainability, we will continue working for a more livable future."
