Blast Furnace No. 2 'Zübeyde' Rebuilt
Erdemir, one of OYAK's mining and metallurgy companies, has rebuilt its No. 2 blast furnace Zübeyde for efficient and sustainable production.
The No. 2 blast furnace, named after Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's mother, will be commissioned at a ceremony to be held on 29 October.
The new furnace, presented to Turkish industry in the centenary year of the Republic, will increase Erdemir's annual production capacity from 1,625,000 tonnes to 1,775,000 tonnes. Erdemir will boost its efficiency and contribute to sustainable production with the new No. 2 blast furnace.
Constructed in place of the No. 2 blast furnace that has been operational since 1978, the new furnace is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment that will advance Erdemir's occupational health and safety, environmental and energy performance.
Liquid pig iron production, one of the most important stages of integrated steel production, is carried out in facilities called blast furnaces. Erdemir decided to renew the No. 2 blast furnace 'Zübeyde' to increase efficiency and contribute to sustainable production, while carrying out construction work on the new furnace without taking the old system offline.
Erdemir will carry out the first production at the rebuilt 'Zübeyde' on 29 October, joining in the centenary celebrations of the Republic.
