We Conducted a Pleasant Interview with Mr. Metin Boz
We talked with Interplast CEO Metin Boz about the establishment of Interplast, the sectors it serves and R&D studies. Boz shared with our readers his views on the polyurethane market in Turkey and his future goals.
Could you please tell our readers about yourself and your professional background?
I graduated from Koç University in 1997 with a degree in business administration. After working for 3 years from 1997 to 2000 at the auditing department of Arthur Andersen, I have been working at Interplast Kimya since 2000. I am currently Chief Executive Officer of the company.Could you please tell us about the development process of Interplast since its establishment?
Interplast was incorporated in 1991 by my late father Azzur Boz, and the company ran its operations as a chemical raw material distributor for the coatings industry up until 2005. In 2005, production was started following the establishment of the first laboratory and manufacturing facility. Our Silivri/Değirmenköy plant was commissioned in 2013.Could you please tell us about your productions in the field of polyurethane and the sectors in which your products are used?
We are engaged in the production of aliphatic and aromatic solvent-based polyurethane resins. Apart from that, we produce all kinds of waxes, paints and finishing materials. Industries we produce for include leather, synthetic leather, coatings, tarpaulin, wallpaper, among others.Where do you position yourself in the PU market in Turkey and how do you add innovations to the sector?
The logistics advantage offered by domestic production in Turkey, quick and effective technical service, and our innovative products that are difficult to imitate create crucial added value, especially in these times, for our customers with whom we collaborate. On the other hand, owing to our R&D practice laboratories, we are able to materialize several ideas and turn them into finished products within hours. Thanks to our strong and dynamic infrastructure, we keep abreast of all developments across the world, rank among industry pioneers, and lead the industry in many projects.Could you please tell us about Interplast's R&D and innovation activities? What are your R&D units?
We advanced our R&D activities, which had been ongoing for many years, to an R&D Center certified by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology in 2018, and we continue to work on numerous new and innovative products that are or will be firsts both in Turkey and across the world thanks to our 6 laboratories focusing on different subject areas. Apart from our R&D studies specific to new products and new technologies alone, our analytical and instrumental analysis laboratories equipped with good equipment, where all physical, chemical and structural characterizations are carried out, enable us to conduct examinations and assessments of all of our studies at an academic level. Additionally, owing to our R&D laboratories where we conduct final product simulations and analyses for all industries for which we provide services and offer products, we examine the process involving the impact of the molecular structure of the chemical substance on the performance of the final product. Many projects we have completed are also being monitored and evaluated by TÜBİTAK. In 2020, within the scope of R&D research across Turkey, we ranked in the top 250 in several fields such as R&D expenditure, number of projects, brands and patents, and ranked in the top 10 in terms of R&D expenditure among chemical companies. We will continue to put our R&D-strengthened structure at the disposal of our stakeholders by ensuring it becomes increasingly more robust day by day.As Interplast, what are the principles you pay attention to within the scope of Quality Policy?
Pursuant to our environment and human-oriented policies, one of our company's principles is the constant improvement of our global resources through effective and conscious use, enhancing efficiency, supporting and developing all of our stakeholders as well as managing all of these transparently and with common sense. From the outset up until now, as a chemical supplier for products needed in healthcare, defense and temporary accommodation sectors throughout the Covid-19 process, we have been fulfilling our responsibility in preventing the spread of the outbreak and protecting public health through managing our company with both an integrated management system and safe production, acting proactively in the implementation and sustainability of countless measures regarding public health and our responsibility awareness.Could you please tell us about your goals and projects for 2022?
