Cellulose Ethers and Their Uses As production volumes increase daily in the construction sector, the raw materials used also vary according to their performance requirements. Cellulose ethers are among the most consumed products in the market for paints and construction chemicals. Cellulose ether raw material is high purity cellulose and is produced from cotton linter and pulp depending on viscosity. It is an environmentally friendly natural polymer, since its main source is wood. As a result of the special process called etherification, methyl cellulose (MC), hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC), methylhydroxypropylcellulose (MHPC) and other varieties are produced. Special forms of cellulose ethers are produced and these special types have many different uses such as building materials, paints and coatings industry, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and cleaning products. Its primary feature is that it can retain water and it is used in the construction industry to provide and increase the binding, ease of application and water retention properties of products. Cellulose is insoluble in water while cellulose ethers, whose chemical synthesis is shown below, are water-soluble.       Cellulose ethers are available in multiple forms and properties. Cellulose ethers can be examined in different groups, particularly according to their production processes. These include: • Methyl cellulose (MC), • Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC), • Hydroxy ethyl methyl cellulose (HEMC), • Hydroxy ethyl cellulose (HEC). Huacell products are used in many end product applications, providing the system with the following properties: • Thickening (by increasing viscosity), • Water retention, • Shear strength, • Positive effect on adhesion, • Binding effect, • Film formation, • Easy application, • Surface tension reduction. Applications include building products, water-based paints, personal care, cosmetics, home care and cleaning products, emulsion polymerization, pharmaceuticals, and others. Huacell is used in water-based paints (interior, exterior, ceiling, etc.) by adjusting rheology, thickening, providing easy application and preventing leakage, sagging or splashing. It also provides binding and open-time extension effects. With its varieties in different viscosities, Huacell contributes rheological properties such as spreadability and non-spattering, storage stability, open-time application duration, opacity and film formation in the production of plaster and construction chemicals. By retaining water for a long time, it provides good surface adhesion and prevents cracking. Another application area for the construction industry is construction chemicals products. Huacell 20 MP and Huacell 60 MP products are used in cement-based plasters, tile/ceramic adhesives, decorative plasters, waterproofing products, sheathing products (ETICS), self-leveling screed products, gypsum-based products in different viscosity ranges and modification degrees. These products generally provide the following properties:
HUACELL 20 MP
• Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose is a nonionic, water-soluble cellulose ether. It is available in tasteless, odorless and fine powder form. Huacell 20 MP is a modified product. It is an excellent product for increasing sagging resistance. Dosage Range for Total Dry Mixed Mortar: 0.04–0.7% HUACELL 60 MP A nonionic, water-soluble polymer powder developed to increase the workability of dry-mixed mortars. at 20°C.[/caption] Scope of Application; • Tile adhesive C1E/C2E and tile grout, • Adhesion and embedding mortar for ETICS, • Decorative processing plaster–trowel mortar, • Special applications of mortar and concrete. Performance Characteristics; • Excellent putty stabilization, • Good wetting and trowel ability, • Long open time, • Easy and smooth surface finish, • Compatibility with other additives. Dosage Range for Total Dry Mixed Mortar: 0.075–0.50% Gypsum is another binder for building products and is mostly preferred for interiors because it is not as water-resistant as cement. Our Huacell GMC 30 and Huacell GMC 40 products provide easy workability and optimum consistency to building products such as gypsum-based hand plaster, machine plaster, joint filler, adhesives, repair mortars. With their capacity to retain water for a long time, they prevent clumping simultaneously. Huacell, which is recommended for gypsum-based products, generally provides the system with the following properties.

Performance Characteristics; • Rapid setting effect, • High water retention, • Very good anti-sagging effect, • Easy pumping and troweling, • Smoothing and leveling comfort, • Early strength and stiffness. Dosage Range for Total Dry Mixed Mortar: 0.02–0.6%
