Icelandic indie and electronic musician Ásgeir achieved overnight success in Iceland with his 2012 debut album. It is estimated that nearly ten percent of the Icelandic population owns the album, and he ranks among the most-listened artists in European cities such as London and Amsterdam. His 72-year-old poet father writes the majority of his lyrics. In 2013, with assistance from Icelandic-based American singer-songwriter John Grant, who helped translate his lyrics, he released an English version of his debut. His 'King and Cross' music video reached 6.5 million views with its audio-visual production quality. He is also known for his cover of 'Sound of Silence' by Simon and Garfunkel, one of the biggest hits in music history, made famous by the film The Graduate.
