The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) released growth figures for the second quarter of the year. Turkey's economy continued on a strong growth trajectory. According to TÜİK data, the Turkish economy recorded 7.6% growth in the second quarter. Exports contributed 3.9 percentage points to growth, while goods and services exports increased 16.4% in the second quarter of 2022 compared to the same quarter of the previous year. Net goods and services exports contributed 2.7 percentage points to growth. In other words, half of the growth was driven by exports.
Commenting on the growth figures, TIM President Mustafa Gültepe noted that a significant transformation process is underway in global supply chains and production disruptions are occurring worldwide, stating that Turkey has stood out as a reliable partner globally by maintaining production and exports uninterrupted, and that this transformation process has added USD 23 billion in value to its exports.
Noting that the export community set records in 21 of the last 23 months, exceeded USD 200 billion for the first time in history last year and subsequently reached USD 225 billion, TIM President Mustafa Gültepe stated: "Turkish exporters, continuing with strong export growth performance in 2022, reached USD 18.6 billion with 13.4% growth in July, achieving the highest July export performance to date. Exports reached USD 144.4 billion in the first 7 months and USD 248 billion in the last 12 months. These successes have been built on the basis of our exporters maintaining production uninterrupted and fulfilling orders without using crises as an excuse."
"We will continue working to strengthen the 'Made in Türkiye' brand"
Emphasizing that the continued growth of the Turkish economy driven by exports during a period when global demand is on a downward trend also points to Turkish exporters standing out as a secure commercial partner worldwide, TIM President Mustafa Gültepe stated: "While our exporters contribute to growth on one hand, they are also raising our country's brand value on the other. I commend all our companies that contribute to quality, sustainable, innovative production and reliable supplier identity and pave the way for economic growth. We will continue our efforts to strengthen the 'Made in Türkiye' brand. As the Turkish Exporters Assembly, our mission in the new period will be to achieve more exporters, higher added value and greater exports, and to contribute to Turkey's growth and development."Advertisement
