Şişecam Wins "Sustainable Investment Award"

Şişecam, Turkey's leading representative in the global glass sector, has been recognized by the Bulgarian Investment Agency with the "Sustainable Investment Award," presented for the first time this year. The award was presented to Şişecam Vice Chairman and General Director Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kırman by Deputy Prime Minister and Tourism Minister Mariana Nikolova. Şişecam, a global player in the glass and chemicals sectors, has been recognized with the "Sustainable Investment Award" as part of the "Investor of the Year Awards" organized by the Bulgarian Investment Agency. The award, presented to Şişecam for its long-term and effective investments, was given to Şişecam Vice Chairman and General Director Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kırman by Deputy Prime Minister and Tourism Minister Mariana Nikolova. The "Investor of the Year Awards," organized for the 15th time this year by the Bulgarian Investment Agency operating within Bulgaria's Ministry of Economy, featured candidates nominated by ministries, regional governors and institutions from all sectors of the economy across the country. More than 60 candidates from various sectors ranging from information technology to healthcare were evaluated by jury members. Şişecam was the winner of the "Sustainable Investment Award" category, which was evaluated for the first time this year as part of the awards program.

Kırman: We are making important contributions to the development of economic relations between Turkey and Bulgaria

Şişecam Vice Chairman and General Director Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kırman, in his remarks at the awards ceremony, stated: "In line with our goal of becoming one of the world's three largest producers in our main areas of operation, we continue our investments and growth, operating in 43 facilities across 14 countries on four continents with 22,000 employees. Şişecam today is Europe's leader in flat glass and the second largest player in household glassware. Bulgaria, in terms of both our investments and as our gateway to European Union markets, is among the countries that Şişecam values. Today, in Bulgaria where we carry out production activities in flat glass, automotive glass, household glassware and chemicals, we continue our operations in line with our growth vision by creating sustainable value. While expanding our global footprint, we are also making important contributions to the development of economic relations between Turkey and Bulgaria." Şişecam Vice Chairman and General Director Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kırman noted that Şişecam has continued its operations in Bulgaria since 1997, and continued: "We have a quarter-century investment history in Bulgaria. We first began our investments in the country in the chemicals sector in 1997. We became a partner in Sodi, the Bulgarian soda producer undergoing privatization. As for our direct new investments, we took the first step in 2004, laying the foundations for our basic glass, white goods glass, automotive glass and household glassware factories. With these investments, we earned the title of 'largest greenfield investor' in Bulgaria. We once again thank the Bulgarian Ministry of Economy and the Bulgarian Investment Agency for this meaningful and special award presented to Şişecam, and wish for our cooperation to strengthen further as we increase our sustainable value-creating growth performance." Following the awards ceremony, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kırman met with Turkey's Ambassador to Sofia Aylin Sekizkök, and also held discussions with Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donçev, Economy Minister Lachezar Borislav and Health Minister Kostadin Angelo.
