OYAK Çimento Releases 2021 Integrated Report
OYAK Çimento, one of the sector's leading cement producers conducting significant activities to contribute to a sustainable world, has released its 2021 Integrated Report.
As one of the leaders in the cement sector, OYAK Çimento continues to lead developments in Turkey and globally to build a more sustainable world and healthier future. In the 2021 Integrated Report disclosed by the company recently, it is evident that technological, social, environmental and economic parameters are incorporated into business processes in a more comprehensive manner alongside classical industrial performance indicators. Aiming to advance its position in the sustainability field further, the company assumes a mission not only to adapt to global developments but also to lead them.
Company places 'Sustainability and Digitalization' at its focus
Setting its direction in sustainability to contribute to Turkey's 2050 net-zero target, OYAK Çimento supported sustainable development in 2021, a year in which measures against climate change were further increased, while continuing to progress towards its goals with practices that will shape the sector. In its sustainable management journey that it put into practice long ago, the company continues to accelerate its activities in energy efficiency, sustainability and digitalization. According to the statement made, the company, which has achieved many firsts globally in the cement sector, supports its efficiency, productivity and sustainability-oriented strategies with the digital transformation project OYAK Çimento 4.0, which includes many firsts in industrial cement sector terms. The project, which is largely built with internal resources, contains many first-time applications not only in Turkey but also globally in the cement sector. Through this project, the company directly supports carbon dioxide (CO2) reduction, one of the most important topics of recent times and the near future. Another point highlighted in the company report was the implementation of sustainability policies in line with 2050 targets in parallel with the EU Green Deal. Based on the 2030 and 2050 targets of the Paris Agreement for this purpose, the company that created its own sustainability targets became the first cement company in Turkey to make the "Net-Zero" commitment, which brings together the criteria required by global companies to set science-based targets to limit global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees by 2030. As the entire world transitions to a zero-carbon economy, the company also took its place among over 2,000 businesses and financial institutions working with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to reduce its emissions in line with climate science. The company, which increased the thermal substitution rate with alternative fuels from 6 percent in 2016 to 23 percent within five years in Turkey, aims for 100 percent alternative fuel utilization.Advertisement
